It's the dawn of a new day for Apple, but alongside the release of the new iPhone 18 lineup and folding iPhone Duo, we're also getting another iOS to play with. Thanks to a simplified system, iOS 27 will take us into 2027 and a bold new era for the tech giant.
While we've known about iOS 27 for months, it's finally out there in the wild and bringing a whole host of features into the palm of our hand. Even though we're sure there will be all the usual complaints about the latest update zapping our battery life, we promise it'll be worth it.

When you've downloaded the whopping iOS 27 update to your iPhone, there are some key settings you'll want to change to ensure you're getting the most out of it. iOS 27 includes a rollout of impressive upgrades, including Spatial Reframing in photographs, temporarily hiding your location in Find My, Apple Cash bill splitting (only in the USA), system optimization on apps, and more.

In terms of settings you'll want to rush to change, there are independent volume sliders so that you can finally adjust the loudness of ringtones, Alarm, media, and notifications.
This means separate channels can have different volume levels, so you can watch a video on full blast without having your alarm blaring like a siren the next day.
Although controversial upon release, Liquid Glass has slowly been winning round its critics. We previously covered how there was a more customizable Liquid Glass coming in iOS 27, but now, we can see it in action.
For those who have the new Siri AI update (more on that below), there's a dedicated Siri AI app. Moring from a pop-up overlay, Google Gemini's overhaul sees Siri get its own dedicated app for understanding what you're viewing on your screen, offer real-time recaps, live translation, and so much more.
Finally, there's a custom lock screen clock scale. Although it might seem minor, you can shrink the lock screen's clock down to the size of a pill, therefore freeing up the top of the screen for extra-large widgets.
Millions are locked out of iOS 27's Siri AI update
The poster boy of iOS 27 is the long-awaited Siri revamp, with Apple's personal assistant being upgraded to Siri AI as part of a partnership with Google Gemini. Siri AI was originally talked about as far back at 2024 and was targeting a 2025 release, but as we all know, that didn't happen.
There was also the dramatic class-action lawsuit where Apple customers were eligible to claim part of a $250 million settlement amid complaints they paid for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 because of promises of a souped-up Siri.
Jump forward to August 2026, and regulatory issues in the European Union mean Siri AI has been delayed indefinitely in countries including Germany, France, and Italy are stuck with the old Siri.
Similar regulatory and approval requirements for AI tech mean China is also without Siri's smarter little sister.
There's still plenty to get our heads around when it comes to iOS 27's new features, and although Siri AI will be missed by many, the rest of the update promises to keep us busy for the foreseeable future.
