After iOS 27 was officially released last month, users have been making the most of the additional upgrades and new features it has to offer, with even little-known updates improving Apple fans’ user experiences.
This comes after the tech giant quietly added a feature that users can enable to revamp their iPhone home screen with the introduction of extra-large widgets.
Apple officially released iOS 27 on September 27 after initially unveiling the operating system upgrade earlier in the year.
The iOS update comes with a whole host of new features including greater volume control for alarms and ringtones, more location settings on the Find My app, and new capabilities with Siri AI.

The digital assistant has undergone a complete revamp and will be able to ‘take actions in your apps, including third-party apps’.

However, there is also a little-known addition to the iPhone that will give users the ability to change the size of the widgets on their screen.
This is because Apple has introduced the ‘extra large’ widget size option, with ‘large’ having previously been the biggest size.
The extra large widgets will stretch to a 4 by 6 grid, an increase from the large which is 4 by 4.

However, the option for extra large widgets will only be available for certain apps, including some of Apple’s built-in apps such as Calendar, Notes, Photos, Reminders, Weather, TV, Shortcuts and Stocks.
While this new feature is available on any size of the iPhone, it seems clear that it is most well suited to the foldable iPhone Duo.

The Duo is the company’s first ever foldable smartphone, with pre-orders for the device starting today (October 16). The iPhone Duo is expected to hit shelves next Friday (October 23).
Apple has innovated a thin screen layer to minimize the visibility of a crease along the screen where it folds, and when unfolded, will be their thinnest model yet.
The hinge has also been engineered to support the device, with Apple stating: “The central structural plane has support ribs for added stiffness. To make the frame even more rigid, the antenna splits are reinforced with high performance inserts. They’re made from ceramic fibers that are three times stronger than grade five titanium. Together these structural details make iPhone Duo feel exceptionally solid every time you use it.”
The new iPhone Duo comes with a hefty price tag, with prices for the device starting at $1,999.
