Apple finally launch one of the most requested charging features iPhone users have been begging for

The tech giant delivered on its long-awaited promise

Apple just launched one of the most requested charging features iPhone users have been wanting for years.

Apple's annual WWDC showcase has come and gone. And while many were hoping for the much-hyped iPhone 17 reveal, the tech giant had plenty of other surprises up its sleeve that got people talking across social media. Despite the lack of new hardware announcements, there was still plenty happening for fans to get excited about.

For the iPhone, the tech giant unveiled a complete redesign featuring glossy Liquid Glass, a new Call Screening feature, and a redesigned Photos App, among other updates.

While some viewers felt underwhelmed by the reveals, and trailing behind Google in certain areas, others were genuinely impressed with what was on display.

Now, after what feels like an eternity of waiting, iOS 26 is adding a feature that shows you exactly how long it'll take your battery to charge when it's plugged in or on a wireless charger.

With Apple experts sharing the common habits of battery damage and overcharging, this new feature allows users to optimise their charging practices better.

"You can now see how long it will take your iPhone to charge in iOS 26," the tech giant announced on X.

In iOS 26, users will be able to view how long a full charge will take in the Battery section of the Settings app, with an estimated charging time on the Lock Screen. Apple hasn't added a dedicated widget for this feature yet, though that could change in future updates.

What's more, the new feature lets users determine how fast the charger is actually working based on the estimated time to reach full charge. If you're using a slow charging connection or a Qi-based charger with a 5W limit, the system will clearly indicate that you're using a slow charger.

Interestingly, this feature was once available on Mac computers, but Apple removed it years ago for reasons that were never entirely clear.

The response on X has been a mix of excitement and 'about time' reactions.

"Seriously!! Finally somebody confirmed this!!! It was the thing I was waiting for all day!!!" one X user commented while another bluntly wrote: "About time lol.

"We should of had this 10 years ago".

Some users were already thinking about improvements, pointing out: "This needs to be a live activity on the Lock Screen and not buried in settings!"

Another questioned: "Finally. But why is there a back button?"

Other users criticised the timing of the feature's release, claiming: "Wow. Android has had this for years."

The iPhone battery charging estimates are currently available to developers testing iOS 26, so public users will have to wait for the update this autumn.
