Apple's iOS 27 update finally brings this 'missing feature' to photos app
Apple fans have been left overjoyed after discovering a cool new feature in the Photos app, as thanks to the iOS 27 update you'll finally be able to save individual frames of a video as a photo.
While getting a picture-perfect photo is what most people aim for when whipping out their iPhone, often the best memories are captured in the moment and with spontaneity — and they're easy to miss when you're fiddling around with focus and framing.
That's why so many people love taking videos of memorable moments, as you get to capture everything in real time without fear that you'll fail to get what you were looking for.
Extracting a particular image from those videos can be a bit of a chore though and you're often left dissatisfied by lower quality screenshots, but iOS 27 has finally removed this frustration by adding what fans have called the Photos app's biggest 'missing feature'.
iOS 27 adds feature that captures stills from videos
It's easy to miss considering the sheer number of new features that have arrived in iOS 27, but the new update has finally added the option to save individual frames from a video as a photo.

You can do this with any video saved on your iPhone regardless of whether it was taken before or after the update – as I've even checked with a video I took all the way back in 2014 that works.
In order to 'grab the perfect still', as Apple are boasting, simply follow these steps:
- Open a video you want to save a still from in the Photos app
- Pause on the moment you want to save
- Select the three dots (...) in the top left
- Select 'Save Video Frame as Photo
The new photo will then be added to your library, and it'll not only be more precise but also retain the original quality of the video without any compression that you'd get from a screenshot.
Additionally, you can press the button with the three lines at the bottom (next to the 'i' in a circle) in order to smoothly scroll through each frame with greater precision, as this will let you capture a moment that might only appear for a fraction of a second.
What are the biggest new features in iOS 27?
As mentioned, that's far from the only major new feature that has arrived in iOS 27 though, with the update bringing plenty of changes that are bound to make your experience using your iPhone better.
Undeniably at the forefront of the update are all of the new Apple Intelligence features, with the refreshed and AI-powered Siri definitely drawing the most attention.
