Researchers have been left stunned after they found a ‘ghost ship’ wreck at the bottom of Lake Michigan.
The wreck is of a cargo schooner that had long since sunk beneath the coastline in Wisconsin during a huge storm.
The discovery was made a whopping 140 years after the ‘ghost ship’ was lost to the waves after a team of researchers analyzed the lake in search of the ship.
The team, led by researcher Brandon Baillod, uncovered the wreck of the ship named F.J. King back in June and the discovery was confirmed by the Wisconsin Historical Society and the Wisconsin Underwater Archaeology Association on Monday (September 15).

The schooner was built in Ohio back in 1867 and was tasked with carrying iron ore from Escanaba, Michigan, to Chicago.
However, the ship became trapped in a storm and waves reaching up to 10 feet tall tore into the seams.
As the vessel sank at around 2am, the crew were left stranded in the water before they were rescued by another nearby schooner.

Since then, people have been trying to locate the sunken wreck’s whereabouts but conflicting reports have made it nearly impossible to find, giving it the title of ‘ghost ship’.
Now though, it looks like the hunt is finally over after Baillod and his team made their discovery earlier this year.
Baillod said that he had suspected that the captain of the ship, Captain William Griffin, could have become disorientated in the storm and may have lost his bearings on where the ship sank.

Speaking to the Associated Press about the discovery, Baillod said: “A few of us had to pinch each other. After all the previous searches, we couldn’t believe we had actually found it, and so quickly.”
In other news, an archaeologist believes he has made a different discovery under the waves just off the coast of Spain, with this one being from much further in the past.
Researcher Ben van Kerkwyk claimed during a taping of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast that he has stunning ‘proof’ of the lost city of Atlantis.
The city is said to have sunk beneath sea level over 11,000 years ago with Plato describing it as once being home to an advanced civilization that constructed large temples and harbor walls.

On the podcast, the expert said: “There’s a guy named Michael Donnellan… And he thinks he’s found, at least, if not Atlantis, a part of Atlantis off the coast of Spain. And they 100% found some s*** in the waters.”
