As Rockstar finally gets ready to unveil the next Grand Theft Auto to the world in 2026, GTA 6 fans think they've uncovered a huge twist involving one of its protagonists after the second trailer seemingly dropped subtle clues.
The hype for GTA 6 is still going strong, even with the developer pushing the release to May 2026, which may lead to expected price increases.
Counting down the days until the long-awaited next chapter of the GTA franchise is in our hands, fans are analyzing every detail they can from the second game trailer. The trailer broke major records, but with over a year until the game is out, there’s plenty of time ot view it again. While the first trailer back in December 2023 gave us a brief look at protagonist Lucia’s storyline and the ultra-realistic graphics, the second trailer shifts the spotlight to the other main character, Jason Duval.

Alongside the hidden details, Easter eggs, and salty digs from Rockstar, some gamers theorize that instead of fleeing from cops that we're so used to in GTA maps, Rockstar might throw a twist into the mix involving the 5-0.

A couple of shots show Jason in tactical gear that looks a little too official for a criminal, hinting that he might actually be a cop. Other scenes where two officers are talking show what looks to be Jason in the room, and, might we add, not in handcuffs.
Furthermore, a couple of lines of dialogue are adding fuel to the theory. When Jason goes to the receptionist of the prison holding Lucia, he asks Jason: “Have I seen you here before?” suggesting he’s a regular there, maybe as a visitor, or even as an employee. Later on, a character directly asks Jason if he’s a fed, implying he might not be trusted by the criminal streets of Vice City.
If this is true, then his partnership with Lucia could be heading for a dark turn. The tension is already hinted at in a scene where they’re in bed together, and Lucia asks: “Trust?” to which Jason responds: “Trust.” This scene alone begs the question: Is Jason hiding something?
Meanwhile, another Reddit user predicts that Jason isn’t a cop but is actually working alongside the police force. They speculate that the cops might be setting up raids and robberies in exchange for a loot cut, making Jason more of a middleman than an actual officer.

Rockstar hasn’t spilled too much about Jason’s backstory yet, except that he’s a former army vet now working for drug runners in Vice City. The official description says he’s looking to 'try something new,' but how that ties into his possible police connections is still up in the air.
For now, all we can do is wait for further announcements and reveals as we wait patiently for GTA 6’s release in May 2026. In the meantime, Rockstar might be working on rereleasing one of its most iconic GTA games in the near future.
