GTA 6 fans slam Rockstar Games over fan-favorite game mode

The search for GTA 6 (and brains) goes on

What is it about zombies and video games that we love? When not shooting our way through Raccoon City in Resident Evil or mowing down the mushroom monsters of The Last of Us, we're jumping into a match of Call of Duty to blast waves of undead Nazis.

The world of Rockstar Games is no stranger to zombies, with Red Dead Redemption's Undead Nightmare DLC being praised as one of the best expansions to ever grace the world of gaming (personally, we think The Sims: Hot Date is right up there).

Sadly, there's been no sign of Red Dead Redemption 2's own Undead Nightmare, while there was much disappointment that 2013's GTA V didn't cash in on the success of the idea just three years after Red Dead did it so well.

As we wait for GTA 6 to break records and presumably become the biggest game of all time, disgruntled gamers are again finding a way to moan about Rockstar Games. We know it's been 13 years since GTA V was released, but we've been the tool of our own demise. By making GTA Online so popular, we've doomed ourselves to this lengthy wait.

Still, as the (delayed) GTA 6 heads toward its May 2026 release date, and with just two trailers under its belt, it seems Rockstar is trying to appease us by adding zombies back to GTA Online.

“Cayo Perico Zombie Survival" comes as part of the latest update and gives some real Dead Island vibes as we head to the tropical Cayo Perico to hold off the hordes.

Playing either solo or as a squad of four, you're tasked with taking out everything from zombie riot police to zombie DJs.

This isn't the first time we've had zombies in GTA V, as only last Halloween, we got down and dirty with "Ludendorff Cemetery Survival".

Alongside questions about why we're getting a seemingly Halloween-themed update in August, there were the typical grumbles that Rockstar seems intent on milking GTA Online at a time many would argue GTA 6 should be its sole focus.

Replying to the reveal trailer on X, one angry fan fumed: "Wake me up when you have GTA 6 news or RDR 2 60fps console version."

Another added: "This ain’t gta 6 bro. I hope you delay it to 2027 tho."

A third said: "Please retire GTA 5 it's been so long now."

This is something of a small win for those who lament the loss of GTA V's Story Mode updates. Way back when, Rockstar planned a series of wacky DLCs that included an alien invasion, the much-discussed Agent Trevor, and a zombie apocalypse episode with Michael, Trevor, and Tracey De Santa. The zombie apocalypse was going to be set in an alternate reality, a bit like Undead Nightmare, but sadly, it was lost to the ages.

We know that "Cayo Perico Zombie Survival" is nowhere near on the scale as this, but it might just do until we get GTA 6's (hopeful) Vice City zombie DLC for Jason and Lucia.
