Gym goers are wearing their Apple Watches the wrong way around for 'mind-blowing' results in what they call 'best hack ever'

Keen gym goers have figure out that your wrist isn't actually the best place to wear your Apple Watch when working out, but the new designated spot isn't somewhere that you'd expect.

Apple Watches are some of the most sophisticated gadgets you can buy when it comes to your health, as they've been proven to tell when you're sick before you even know it, and have even shown capabilities to detect serious sleep conditions.

For most users though, Apple's wearable device is the perfect gym companion, tracking their exercise in excruciating detail and providing them with the stats they need to improve.

While it definitely makes sense to strap the watch to your wrist as you would any other similar piece of tech, some gym experts on TikTok have realized that there's a far better place to slap it on if you want to ensure the most accurate readings for your exercise.

As reported by the New York Post, TikTok user Ana Espinal (@bodiebyana) has revealed that she attaches her Apple Watch to her ankle while at the gym, adding "if you know you know" in the caption.

"Every time I have my Apple Watch on my wrist it always pauses and never records my full workout," Espinal explains. "Found out about the ankle thing and never went back."

The 'science' behind it appears to be that your ankle is far more active that your wrist and arm, and therefore gives not only a more accurate reading of your movements, but also prevents any time outs that would stop the exercise from tracking.

While some in the comments have pointed out it's unfortunate resemblance to an ankle monitor, which admittedly isn't the best look, others have outlined one major flaw that you'll need to be aware of when undertaking this method.

Understandably, your Apple Watch is unable to track your heart rate - especially through a sock - which negates a lot of the most valuable tracking metrics you'd want from your exercise.

It's a tradeoff that can be valuable depending on what you like doing in the gym and what you're aiming for, but it definitely comes with sacrifices that you'll have to weigh up before you make the switch from wrist to ankle.

Another thing you might not have thought about is how much more difficult it is to simply tell the time when it's on your ankle, as you won't be able to quickly glance at how long you've been running for without tripping yourself up on the treadmill!
