You aren't losing your mind; it really does seem like your iPhone keyboard has been playing up more than usual these days.
We all know it's 'ducking' annoying when autocorrect changes what you want to type out, but trust us, it's not your fiddly fingers to blame for the latest iPhone mystery.
There are numerous complaints whenever Apple updates its iOS systems, while the September 2025 rollout of iOS 26 was slammed as a 'downgrade' as critics continued to hate the Liquid Glass overhaul.
We previously covered the settings you need to adjust to get the most out of iOS 26, and as ever, there were all the usual complaints that it zaps your battery life. That's far from the only issue that has emerged from iOS 26, with the keyboard causing a surprisingly large number of grumbles.

Over on YouTube, Michi NekoMichi shared a video that reiterates we're not alone in thinking we've lost the ability to type. It turns out iOS 26 could be the culprit, although we still wouldn't advise throwing your iPhone out of the window. Here, the creator attempted to show off the glitchy iOS 26 keyboard, noting how you might feel like you're making more typing mistakes since updating.
Typing the phrase "thumbs up" multiple times, he claimed that it was misspelled in various ways. Recording himself typing in slow motion, he said he discovered a "rather annoying bug" where typing the letter 'u' would trigger a different letter being input – despite detecting that 'u' had been pressed.
Michi NekoMichi was able to replicate the bug on various iPhones, proving that it wasn't a device-specific problem.
Users apparently started noticing a fiddly keyboard back in iOS 18, although the YouTuber doesn't think theories on what's causing it are right. The most popular suggested it was an autocorrect glitch, although Michi NekoMichi points out that it still occurs when autocorrect is disabled.
The other idea is that Apple has been dynamically adjusting the size of the hit boxes since the first iPhone was released in 2007. This might also not be to blame for the keyboard conundrum because the video shows that the correct hit boxes are displayed when you press the right keys.
If the issue lies in the OS itself, there's nothing much we can do other than report it via the feedback app and sit patiently for a bug fix.
Some claim things have gotten better, but as recently as February 26, one Reddit thread was calling out the tech giant. Back then, one disgruntled OP vented: "I literally can’t type properly anymore. The keyboard is lagging, missing inputs, randomly autocorrecting everything into nonsense, and sometimes it just freezes mid-typing. It feels completely broken and honestly makes the phone borderline unusable."
Responding to Michi NekoMichi's video, someone wrote: "Love it when a corporation is trying to gaslight me into thinking I have dementia."
Thanking the creator for confirming they weren't going mad, another added: "This is the most validating video on the internet right now."
A third said: "Oh my goodness - I had brain surgery a couple of months ago and was getting scared that I’d gone shaky or something! This is really relieving to hear about! Thanks!"
With issues seemingly ongoing, don't worry that you're alone in this frustrating situation.
