Screenshots are one of those iPhone features that everyone uses but nobody really thinks about.
You snap a picture of something to probably show someone or remind yourself later, only to probably forget about it until your storage is full and you need space.
But Apple's iOS 26 update is about to change that.
While Tim Cook's been busy securing a $500 million deal for rare earth minerals, his software team has been working on some genuinely useful screenshot improvements that upgrade your screenshots to a new level.

Apple showed off iOS 26 at its WWDC event in June, and while the screenshot features are currently only available in developer beta, a public beta is expected next week, with the full rollout coming in September.

Until then, we can look at what's coming and imagine how these features might fit into daily life.
Here are three iOS 26 screenshot features that will actually change how you use your iPhone:
1. Image Search with Apple Intelligence
The new Image Search function lets you identify content within screenshots using Apple Intelligence.

While iOS 18.5 already lets you search screenshots, you're limited to Google results. iOS 26 expands this to include Etsy, Pinterest, and more. This is pretty useful if you're the type of person who screenshots interesting furniture or clothing but never gets around to tracking down where to buy it.
Bear in mind, Image Search will only be available on iPhone 15 Pro and above.
2. Screenshots can add events to your calendar
The Add to Calendar function does exactly what it sounds like. It can extract event information from screenshots and automatically create calendar entries.

If you screenshot an event poster with the date, venue, and time, iOS 26 can read the screenshot and create the event for you, basically taking away all the manual effort on your part.
This feature is limited to iPhone 15 Pro and newer models.
3. Enable HDR screenshots for better quality
HDR screenshots might sound like a minor improvement, but better image quality is welcome anytime. HEIF images are able to store more information, such as metadata and text, than JPEGs and PNGs.

With the HEIF image format, iPhone users running iOS 26 will be able to capture screenshots and screen recordings with higher quality and a wider dynamic range.
Here's how to turn HDR on/off:
Open the Settings app on iOS 26 and go to General > Screen Capture.
Then, select the HDR option under the Format section. Press the Home + Volume Up buttons to take a screenshot.
