Fury as Disney+ confirms disappointing release date for major Marvel project

An iconic MCU villain is returning to the fold

The Marvel Cinematic Universe finds itself in a bit of a tight spot, and as accusations of superhero fatigue affect the entire movie and TV industry, there are complaints that the world's highest-grossing franchise is struggling to keep itself relevant.

Following a slew of box office disasters with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels, we presume there were also some uncomfortable conversations when Disney shelled out $212 million on the maligned Secret Invasion miniseries.

There's been more recent success with the likes of Agatha All Along, Daredevil: Born Again, and Deadpool & Wolverine, although naysayers still claim that The Fantastic Four: First Steps wasn't 'the MCU is back' outing they were hoping for.

Disney's typically packed streaming slate has plenty more Marvel madness to come, but aside from Spider-Man: Brand New Day bringing back Tom Holland's beloved wall-crawling hero, the big one is a double whammy of the next two Avengers movies.

Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars are coming in December 2026 and December 2027. Before both of these, the much-hyped VisionQuest is supposed to release, bringing to a close the WandaVision trilogy that started in 2021.

Rumored in 2021 and officially announced in October 2022, VisionQuest will pick up the dangling threads of WandaVision and see Paul Bettany return to the role of White Vision. The cast is rounded off by T'Nia Miller as Jacosta, Todd Stashwick as Paladin, and a slew of returning MCU names. Alongside James D'Arcy reprising his Agent Carter role as Jarvis, James Spader makes his long-awaited return as Avengers: Age of Ultron's titular villain.

The inclusion of Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Maximoff/Shepherd ties to Joe Locke playing Billy in Agatha All Along, while many are hoping his superpowered brother will appear to bring together the dynamic duo of Speed (Tommy) and Wiccan (Billy).

We'd also be amiss if we didn't mention those swirling rumors that Elizabeth Olsen could be back as the legendary Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.

We'll unfortunately have to wait a bit longer to find out what VisionQuest will mean for the future of the MCU because fans are disappointed by the latest release date news.

VisionQuest finished filming in July 2025 and was originally rumored for a summer 2026 release, but now, it's tipped to land on Disney+ in fall 2026. Disney has officially locked in 2026, with other sources honing in on the fall part.

Responding to the news, many were disappointed that we've had to wait so long for the third chapter.

One angry fan wrote: "Disney has absolutely mastered the art of releasing sequels years after we've lost interest."

Another added: "ANOTHER FULL YEAR FROM NOW 😭😭?? this show better be heat."

A third concluded: "Listen to me while you still can. nobody cares about follow-up of a tv show that aired 4 years. Nobody cares about your universe anymore. time to restart."

Considering the MCU churned out three Iron Man movies in five years, that seems about right. Let's also remember that it took us six years to get three Thor movies, six years to get from The Avengers to Infinity War, and nine years to get a Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. Then again, many have pointed out that making a miniseries shouldn't be as challenging as making a full-blown blockbuster movie, meaning they hoped VisionQuest would be out a little sooner.

The idea that it'll be a year from now until we see where creator Terry Matalas is taking this Agatha All Along follow-up, you'd better settle in for a long wait.
