Elon Musk and Donald Trump's relationship has been somewhat of a rollercoaster ride over the past seven months, as the pair has seemingly gone from inseparable to distant, but the former DOGE head has challenged rumors in a new social media post.
Since joining Trump's presidential campaign trail in the latter stages of 2024, Elon Musk almost immediately became one of the soon-to-be president's closet advisors.
Helped with a healthy several-hundred-million dollar donation, Musk gained incredibly influence in the world of politics that only became stronger once Trump emerged victorious from the election.

His own mother commented on how close the pair had become, and with his rise to head of the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), it seemed as if only Trump had more power in the new administration than Elon.

However, it appeared as if their relationship began to fracture as quickly as it had formed in recent months, with Musk's failure to secure the Supreme Court vote in Wisconsin considered by many analysts to be the catalyst.
Mentions of each other on social media almost ceased to exist, Musk has even been outspoken on certain Trump plans, and the billionaire's departure as head of DOGE appeared to signal more than just the conclusion of his Special Government Employee allocation.

While it might not be a post from Musk himself, he has reposted a tweet from 'DogeDesigner' - who he frequently interacts with - which might serve as an endorsement of sorts.
The post itself reads: "In the coming days, legacy media will try to convince you that President Trump and Elon Musk are no longer friends and that's why Musk left. What they won't tell you is that Elon was a Special Government Employee, limited to 130 days of service and that term ends tomorrow."

In reposting this, Musk almost confirms that things aren't quite as bad as they seem between him and the president, and that seemingly had nothing to do with his departure from the Trump administration.
Many analysts have also pointed out that Tesla's falling stock market value and growing unpopularity also made it the perfect time for Musk to return to the car company 'full time', as it appeared to be in a 'code red situation' that only its CEO could solve.
Furthermore, while he might not be dealing with 'wasted' spending any more, Musk certainly won't be a stranger to the current government as SpaceX appears to play a key role in the development of Trump's new Golden Dome System, which could earn Musk's company hundreds of billions of dollars.
