Many people have speculated about a potential rift between Donald Trump and Elon Musk after the latter's swift departure from US government, and a new ominous social media post has continued to illuminate the current state of their relationship.
Trump was near inseparable from Elon Musk after the richest man in the world hopped on to his election campaign trail late last year, and this very much continued once the president took office for a second time.
Sources close to the pair have commented on their close bond, and Musk even branded himself the 'First Buddy' in a post on X shortly after Trump's election victory.

Musk was appointed head of the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and quickly became one of the most powerful individuals in the Trump administration, and it appeared as if the pair's goals were aligned as they enacted significant federal spending cuts.

It all seemed to end as quickly as it began though, as rumors of a rift between Trump and Musk began to spiral after the latter's failure to secure the Wisconsin Supreme Court vote. Sources inside government declared that Musk was 'finished, done, gone' in the world of politics.
They also appeared to cease any mention of each other on social media in the months prior to Musk's department from DOGE, and Musk was dropping hints that their previously inseparable bond was indeed on the rocks.

However, a new ominous social media post from President Trump appears to suggest that things aren't quite as bad as they might seem, although it's easy enough to read it the opposite way.
Trump shared on his Truth Social account a screenshot of a week-old Elon Musk tweet, where the billionaire announced his departure from DOGE and thanked the president for the opportunity.

There was no comment attached to the screenshot, leaving many to speculate it's purpose - especially as it came almost exactly a week after Musk's original post.
Following Musk's departure from government, President Trump also posted on his Truth Social account that Elon "is terrific" and that he "will always be with us," despite leaving his role at DOGE.
On the other hand, things don't seem quite as rosy from the side of Musk himself, as he's taken multiple shots at a new spending bill proposed by the Republican Party.
The tech mogul proclaimed that the bill was 'disappointing' and 'undermines the work' he did at DOGE, and a new post on X saw Musk declare that he "just can't stand it anymore," shaming those who voted for it.

Former White House officials have also insinuated that some of Musk's recent comments clearly indicate his thoughts on Trump's policy, and it's not the most favorable reviews you'll see for the president's time in office.
Regardless, current plans have Musk and SpaceX in line to receive tens, if not hundreds, of billions of dollars when Trump's Golden Dome plans go through, so either they're not as far apart as they might seem, or money is the best bridge in a relationship like theirs.
