His theory has fallen 'flat'

One of the first things we're taught when studying the stars is that the Earth is round.

After all, the planets of the solar system rotate around the Sun, with the Earth's rotation giving us a night and day cycle.

There's plenty of photographic evidence to prove the Earth is round, but still, flat Earthers refuse to believe it.

The idea of a flat Earth is nothing new, but as early as Pythagoras in 6th century BC, the concept of a spherical Earth started to take off. NASA critic Jeran Campanella has gone to great lengths while trying to prove the Earth is flat, but in an embarrassing situation, it seems all he's done is prove himself wrong.

Speaking on The Final Experiment YouTube channel, Campanella says how 'glober' (someone who believes the Earth is round) Will Duffy flew him out to Antartica for $35,000.

The general theory is you head to Antarctica to prove there's no midnight sun because it would impossible for the Sun to stay in the sky for 24 hours a day if the Earth was flat.

As most know Antarctica has a midnight sun, it should be easy to prove flat Earthers wrong.

The Sun moves left to right in the north polar region and right to left in Antarctica due to its rotational axis being tilted, while the flat Earth theory is unable to explain it.

At least Campanella has taken this loss on the chin, saying: "Alright guys, sometimes you are wrong in life. I thought that there was no 24-hour Sun, in fact I was pretty sure of it, but I respect Will Duffy for being a standup guy - at least in the way that he kept saying it was true, I kept saying it wasn't."

A red-faced Campanella continued, "He [Duffy] said 'you want to go, I'll take you' and brought me here... and it's a fact the Sun does circle you in the south so what does that mean you guys are going to have to figure that out yourself."

Despite Campanella having appeared in numerous documentaries about flat Earth, he concluded: "Don't listen to my beliefs or my opinion, it shouldn't matter to you - but at least you should be able to accept that the sun does exactly what these guys said, as far as circles the southern continent.

"So that's about it, I realize that I'll be called a shill for just saying that and you know what, if you're a shill for being honest so be it - I honestly believed there was no 24-hour sun... I honestly now believe there is. That's it."

Over on Reddit, there were plenty of jokes about flat Earthers, with some suggesting it's all a scam to get free trips. One said: "I have a suspicion that flat earthers are only doing this so that one day people might be exasperated enough with them would give a free flight to the space just to prove them wrong."

Another added: "This is where I see much of the explanation for ‘high profile’ flat Earthers. It’s not really about proving the earth is flat. It’s about getting attention and everything that comes along with it. They are almost like conmen in a way."

A third said: "Why even bother pandering to their delusion? If these morons want to believe the earth is flat or even suspended on the back of a giant turtle I really don’t care. They’re morons and have no power or influence worth bothering about. Just laugh at them.

In the age of information, ignorance is a choice!"
