It was late last year that the mysterious comet known as 3I/ATLAS passed its closest point with our planet, yet the story is seemingly far from over as a new statement from the CIA appears to reignite theories that it's an alien object.
By far the most popular conspiracy adjacent theory continues to surround the existence of alien life – especially life that could eventually threaten our planet – and the overwhelming focus of these 'believers' has been on a mysterious comet hurtling through our solar system throughout the last year.
The existence of a comet on its own is nothing to necessarily write home about outside of the scientific community, but the makeup of this unknown object and the path it took appeared to spark the interest of some that claimed it had an unexpected intention.
One major scientist from Harvard University repeatedly warned people that this object was the sign of an impending alien invasion, and urged his fellow experts to take this seriously as not doing so could have significant ramifications for humanity.

However, experts over at NASA were finally able to get a closer look at the comet upon its reemergence from behind the Sun and confirmed that it was exactly what they expected, passing by its closest encounter to our planet with no issues whatsoever.

A new statement from the CIA appears to have rocked the boat again though, as it has fueled further speculation due to a rather mysterious admission.
As reported by the Daily Mail, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request in November 2025 towards the CIA produced a fascinating and potentially illuminating response, as intelligence officials revealed that it could "neither deny or confirm the existence or nonexistence of records" regarding the mysterious comet 3I/ATLAS.
While this might seem like nothing to most people, understanding when and why the CIA has used responses like this to information requests could lead you down a rabbit hole of sorts.
These type of non-answers where nothing is provided are known as 'Glomar responses', which are a way for the government and CIA to say that no information is provided either way because doing so could reveal or hint towards incredibly sensitive information.

Effectively, those who want to believe that 3I/ATLAS is a sign of alien life are using this as a means to prove that there's more going on than we're being told, and the aforementioned Harvard professor Avi Loeb is at the heart of it all once again.
"That this information is treated as sensitive enough to be classified by the CIA is surprising, given that NASA officials stated decisively at a press conference on November 19, 2025, that 3I/ATLAS is definitely a comet of natural origin," Loeb asserted.
It could simply be a way to avoid saying anything either way, but it's made what recent seemed like a closed book case appear a little more open than we thought, fueling speculation just that little bit longer.
