Officials have reaffirmed warnings regarding a dangerous 'radiation fog' that's sweeping across parts of the United States, as it is incredibly dangerous for people to travel within.
Few things can bring the modern world to a halt more than extreme weather, and while perhaps not quite as devastating as the natural disasters that cause widespread destruction, there are some forms that people take lightly with great risk to themselves and others.
It doesn't necessarily need to be on the scale of a massive hurricane or earthquake to cause damage and put people's lives in jeopardy, as officials have revealed new warnings regarding a dangerous 'radiation fog' that has previously had fatal consequences.
As reported by the Daily Mail, this so-called radiation fog is affecting areas of southeast America, most notably across 78 counties in Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Despite the name, this type of fog is not related to any form of nuclear radiation and being exposed to it isn't strictly harmful to your health, but it instead is produced by excess moisture left in the air after heavy rain or higher levels of humidity.
This thick fog then can mixed with toxic particles from factories and car exhausts, which can lead people to breathe in dust and harmful chemicals, leading to potential respiratory issues or asthma troubles.
The real danger, however, comes from how the fog can dramatically increase the risk of driving, as it's thick nature means that you typically can't see more than around a quarter of a mile ahead of you at the best of times.
Understandably this can lead to an increased risk of collisions and general car crashes, prompting officials to urge people to either reduce or completely cut out driving completely until the fog subsides.
The NWS has outlined that if you do find yourself having to drive, it's best if you "slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you," as you can never be too careful in conditions like this.

Similar fog back in 2024 caused a horrific crash on Interstate 5 in Kern County, California, leaving two people dead and nine injured in what ended up being a 40-vehicle crash as the dangers of the weather were reportedly underadvised.
Additionally, this current bout of radiation fog caused a multi-vehicle crash in Jupiter, Florida on Wednesday, where a 16-year-old tragically died as a result.
