There are many terms for masturbation, and whether it's spanking the monkey, choking the chicken, waxing the carrot, or playing pocket pool, statistics suggest that over 90% of men are known to 'knock one out'.
Even though the scientific purpose of ejaculation is to fertilize an egg to help the human race reproduce, that's not always the reason sperm are being ejected from the body.
Although some continue to frown on masturbation, and it was once seen as a sign of a 'mental problem', our attitudes to sex and health have continued to evolve.
This has led to a rise in online pornography, although the recent clampdown on adult materials is a conversation for another day.

In terms of masturbation, there are the benefits of releasing endorphines, while 'burping the worm' is good for relieving sexual tension.

Self-stimulating the genitals via your own methods or through the use of sex toys, masturbation typically brings you to the point of sexual climax, and in men, that commonly involves ejaculation.
As WebMD reminds us: "Masturbation also is a safe sexual alternative for people who wish to avoid pregnancy and the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases."
Still, there can be some drawbacks, with the online encyclopaedia reminding us that masturbation can become a problem when it "inhibits sexual activity with a partner, is done in public, or causes significant distress to the person."
The male body needs a consistent stream of active and alive sperm for reproduction, but as living cells, they only have a finite lifespan. This means that sperm has to go somewhere if it's not expelled through ejaculation, which can be done through masturbation, presented as wet dreams, or simply reabsorbed into the body.
You might've heard of No Nut November, but giving a serious case of 'blue balls', YouTube creator Pierre Dalati explained what happened when he went a whole year without masturbating. Saying that he was going to give the most honest review out there, Dalati said there are a lot of videos that will sing the praises of supposed focus increase, more energy, and a testosterone boost.
Withholding sexual climax has indeed become a popular part of the controversial looksmaxxing movement, meaning there's a darker side to the trend.
Dalati says that he doesn't think that masturbation is inherently wrong, but it's the constant watching of pornography that's training our minds in the wrong way: "You're giving yourself such a dopamine rush, every single day, in such a short period of time.
"That translates to your everyday life, the way you talk to girls, the way you approach girls, because you're so used to this unrealistic approach and because you're doing it every single day, that becomes your normal."
Dalati claims that he noticed increased focus and could concentrate better on tasks ranging from his job to working out at the gym. He maintains that other benefits included more confidence in himself because he wasn't being given a constant dopamine hit and then a lull. He admitted the first two weeks were the hardest, but after that, he apparently started to see benefits.
As well as increased focus and energy, where he no longer felt 'slouched', Dalati says he experienced better mental clarity. Even though he didn't measure his testosterone, the above benefits are said to be associated with increased testosterone.
For those who don't want to try it for a whole year, Dalati concluded that you could try it for a month or two just to see if you notice your own benefits.
