Fans 'holding out' on replaying iconic Rockstar Games title amid rumors of a upgrade

Some think they might be waiting a while

Replaying your favourite game can often give you a new perspective and allow you to notice details that would have passed you by the first time around, but sometimes it's better to wait a little longer as an enhanced version of the experience could be just around the corner.

Games are constantly being ported, remastered, and remade to new consoles in order to provide the best experience possible through enhanced visuals, performance, and quality of life features.

That was especially true in the generational console jump between the PS4 and PS5, as it was the first in a long time to feature a completely seamless library.

As a consequence, many developers made the effort to upgrade their most played games from the previous generation to take advantage of the significantly enhanced hardware, yet Rockstar Games has left one iconic title alone, causing some fans to hold out on playing it again.

What Rockstar game are fans 'holding out' on replaying?

It has been nearly half a decade now since the PlayStation 5 dropped, and ever since that launch day Rockstar Games fans have been desperate for an upgraded version of Red Dead Redemption 2.

While many big budget games began to struggle towards the end of the PlayStation 4's generational lifespan, Red Dead 2 was among the most demanding and therefore suffered thanks to the hardware restraints of Sony's last gen console.

Where PC gamers can enjoy high framerates and stunning graphics if they've got the machine to provide it, anyone on PS5 is still restricted to the 30 fps limits set by Rockstar for the PS4 version.

Even if you've got a fancy new PS5 Pro - which is more than capable of handling the newest releases at 4K and 60 fps - Red Dead Redemption 2 remains the same as it ever was, leading many to feel like they need to wait for an enhanced version to drop.

"Holding out replaying on the Pro till the rumoured Upgraded version comes out," wrote one hopeful fan on the r/reddeadredemption2 subreddit, sharing their custom wrapped PS5 Pro as a sign of their love for the game.

While people in the comments are warning them to not hold out hope, recent 'leaks' from Rockstar's own website appear to hint that a PS5 update could be closer than we might think.

Is RDR2 getting a PS5 enhanced version?

Nothing has been explicitly confirmed right now and everything is based on speculation, but one tiny detail spotted by some keen eyed fans on social media seems to indicate that an upgraded version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is in the works.

As shared by u/Livid-Army-5857 on the r/reddeadredemption subreddit, the option for 'Online migration' was briefly available in the Red Dead Online support page on Rockstar's website, before disappearing shortly after.

This likely means nothing to the average gamer, but the GTA Online equivalent for this setting only appeared following the release of Grand Theft Auto 5's cross-generational upgrade, as players would have to move their accounts from one 'game' to the next.

It could simply be just a mistake that was accidentally added to the Red Dead Online section, but all of the optimists out there are taking it as confirmation that Red Dead 2 will finally be getting the performance enhancement it deserves.

Whether you're willing to go along with the rumor and hold out on replaying the game is up to you, however, although with an average completionist time of around 189 hours it might drop before you're finished!
