There are certain rules that everyone follows when it comes to keeping technology safe, yet one 'banned' location you should never take your iPhone has an unexpected explanation according to a former Apple employee.

Millions of iPhone users across the world bring their phone into the room with them while they're showing, as it's the easiest way to chuck on your favorite songs, listen to a podcast, or even have a conversation with a friend if that floats your boat.

It's a completely normal thing for many, and most people think that the biggest 'threat' facing your Apple device is the gallons of water pouring out from your shower or taps, as you'd imagine that would do some serious damage to the electronic gadget.

However, one former Apple employee reveals why you should never have your iPhone in the same room as you when you're showering, and it has nothing to do with the potential for water damage.

Shared by ex-Apple employee 'hitomidocameraroll' on TikTok, he explains that heat is the biggest reason why you should keep your phone away from the bathroom when you're having a shower.

"I know a lot of people shower with their phone but you shouldn't do that, and it's not for the reason you think," he explains. He continues to explain that modern iPhones are designed to be fine when exposed to water, and you can even hold it ports-up under a tap and it'll be fine.

"Problem is, when you go into the shower and you're using your phone, you're actually exposing it to excessive amounts of heat," the TikTok reveals. "That's what's gonna mess up your phone, not the water. You can always get that to squirt out."

You might even learn something new about your iPhone here too, as he shows off a 'Water Eject' feature you can get through an app which produces certain sound frequencies which create vibrations to dislodge water stuck inside your device.

It's understandable though why excessive heat can cause long-term damage for your device though, as any piece of tech always struggles to function when exposed to high temperatures. This can lead to slower performance, especially under high load, and can even cause the parts inside your iPhone to overheat and break permanently.

"Cold showers [are] the move," writes one comment underneath the video, and while that would definitely help avoid the issue, I can't imagine many would think that it's a sacrifice worth making to keep listening to music.

"I used to carry my phone with me to listen to music when I showered, but the heat damaged the ports," adds another, proving to be the perfect case study for why keeping your iPhone with you at all times maybe isn't the best idea.

This isn't the only issue that you're likely to encounter when leaving your phone in the room when showering though, as another TikToker revealed the disgusting mold build up inside their iPhone case.

This is all down to trapped moisture inside the case, which builds up thanks to the excessive water vapor and condensation present in the room when you're showering. You can avoid this by removing and cleaning your phone case regularly, but you might just want to think twice about whether it's worth bringing your iPhone in the bathroom altogether.
