One TikTok has shown the disturbing reality of leaving your phone in the bathroom while you shower, and it might cause you to think twice about your habits as it could end up being dangerous for your health.

Keeping your phone in a case is one of the more sensible things you can do, as with iPhones stretching beyond $1,000 these days it's only natural to want to protect it from any accidents.

On top of this, having your phone with you in the room when you shower is also something that many like to do, as it lets you listen to your favorite songs or podcasts while you wash, or its there if you're waiting for a call or message to come through.

Unfortunately, as one TikTok shows, it turns out that combining the two has rather disgusting consequences, and it could also end up being a major health risk if you're not careful.

As reported by the New York Post, TikTok user @bestfindsbestie has shared her very own PSA for anyone who - like her - leaves their phone in the bathroom while they shower.

Upon removing the case, she reveals that the underside that touches the back of the phone is absolutely covered in black mold that has built up from the excess moisture that a shower generates.

While it shouldn't come as a shock when you actually sit down and think about it, it's something that many people will overlook and not consider, and you should definitely check your own phone case if you're privy to the same habits.

Some of the comments aren't quite as forgiving as you'd hope though, with many sharing the same thought: "If y'all aren't clearing your phone cases I think you're nasty af."

Another points out that they "feel like this is a common sense thing," and while that is definitely true and you should be regularly cleaning your case considering how much it comes into contact with, it's not hard to imagine why someone would take it for granted.

There are some comments that suggest that there might be some greater ventilation issues at play here and that the sheer amount of mold evidenced is more than what would crop up from the act of showering, but we'll never know the truth.

One thing you can do, as some users have pointed out, is invest in a waterproof Bluetooth speaker if you're someone who uses their phone for music when showering, as not only can you take it into the shower with you (and use it as a microphone if you're a keen performer) but it will importantly be far easier to keep clean.

These can be as cheap as $15 and you can get them anywhere, so it's definitely something to consider. You'll still need to clean your phone case though, don't forget that!
