Being one of the most important people in the world of technology its understandable that people will pay attention to what OpenAI CEO Sam Altman thinks of the latest iPhone, and his thoughts might end up surprising you.
Sam Altman is never shy about sharing his thoughts on social media, whether it be his concerns around his own products or the same old arguments with Elon Musk, yet one thing you might want to pay attention to is his thoughts on Apple's latest product announcements.
Everyone had their eyes fixed on Apple's flagship event earlier this month as we all anticipated the iPhone 17 finally being revealed, but few people will have expected to find what some are calling Apple's best value product in years.
Although the Pro more than justifies its high price tag, the standard iPhone 17 is the closest a base version has been in a long time to the top of the range model, and it has plenty of people with older devices thinking about making the upgrade.

It's neither the standard 17 or the Pro that has caught the eyes of the ChatGPT CEO though, as he has revealed why he might be interested in picking up the unexpected third option.

"First new iPhone upgrade I have really wanted in a while," Altman exclaimed on X following the Apple event, adding that it "looks very cool."
He also clarified in the replied that it's the new ultra-thin and ultra-lightweight iPhone Air that he's specifically referring to, and it's easy to understand why this might appeal to the eyes of someone who has grown tired of repetitive yearly releases.
While it does have some clear drawbacks, including a smaller battery and missing camera elements, the dramatically thinner and lighter design definitely gives it a unique place within the market – and one that has clearly convinced someone like Altman.
It could even be the perfect companion to OpenAI's currently unannounced 'third core device' that the company has designed in partnership with ex-Apple icon Jony Ive, as the thinner and lighter design would make carrying around another gadget feel less cumbersome.

Some have claimed that Altman's praise of the new iPhone is a minor conflict of interest though, as OpenAI currently holds a partnership with Apple that lets iPhone users take advantage of ChatGPT natively on the device.
"You forgot the 'Paid Partnership' tag at the end of the post Sam," writes one scorned user in the replies, and it's certainly fresh in all of our minds after Elon Musk's social media outburst and legal threats last month.
Altman did agree that he thinks replacing Siri – which is currently awaiting a repeatedly delayed AI-powered overhaul – with ChatGPT voice would be a "great idea," adding that he would be "supportive" of this if Apple decided to head in that direction.
