It's hard to keep track of the various iPhone updates, and while Apple handily names them 18.4 or 18.5, it feels like we barely catch a break before we're being told to download the next one.
While it's become par for the course that each new iOS update comes with controversy, iOS 18.5 feels like it's facing more backlash than usual.
Many expected that the .5 denomination would make iOS 18.5 a big one, but after iOS 18.4 was dubbed one of the most important in the iPhone's history, it seems there wasn't much left in the tank this time around.

While Apple has implored us all to upgrade to 18.5 as soon as possible to avoid 30 vital security issues, not everyone's sold on the latest round of tweaks.
Over on Reddit, the harshest critics have branded iOS 18.5 as 'nonsense'.
Aside from the security issues, the update ties into Elon Musk's Starlink capabilities that should ensure you can get a signal anywhere on the globe, but for many, that's not enough.

Notably, angry iPhone users have called out Apple for prioritizing other features instead of general bug fixes.
There's also been a vocal backlash to the introduction of the Harmony Pride wallpaper, especially as Apple has placed it at the top of the list outlining what's new in the update.
One disgruntled user wrote: "I am so tired of these nonsense updates. I don’t care about new wallpapers. I just want Apple to fix the ever growing list of iOS 18 bugs. :(."
Another mocked Apple as they wrote: "'A pride harmony wallpaper and other things'. Truly one of the greatest updates of all time."

A third joked: "People: 'Can we please get Siri fixed and delivered what's promised?; Apple: 'Best I can do is pride wallpaper'."
Telling others to take a stand of defiance against the company, someone else concluded: "Apple has tons of very old bugs that they never fixed.

“They don't even care. We all need to report bugs, with lots of details like logs and screen shots and/or video recordings, to Apple so they see how bad and annoying these bugs are to us. Do your part."
Some even called for CEO Tim Cook to be fired, which seems like a bit of an overreaction to an update you aren't impressed by.
We're used to iPhone users grumbling about the latest iOS update zapping their battery life, but whereas that tends to settle down after a few days, it's clear the pitchforks are out for iOS 18.5.
Still, with continued reports that each update only adds more security issues and bugs to the mix, it's not hard to see why some might be vexed about where the devs are putting their efforts.

It's another day, another controversy for the tech giant.
