Often called the 'world's oldest profession,' prostitution has been around for millennia.
But, although the act has become partially decriminalised in some parts of America, the act remains strictly illegal in almost all US states - except one.
A YouTuber went to investigate a city where the act is still legal to find out what happens there and what the locals think.

Tyler Oliveira has built his channel by exploring unique sides to the USA including sneaking onto Epstein Island and visiting the most 'inhumane' place on Earth.
Now, he's exploring the city of Pahrump, where one of the few legal brothels in America operates, called Chicken Ranch.

Speaking to the locals, there was some division in their opinions about prostitution. Certain residents were comfortable with it, arguing that the brothel's 'rules and regulations' created 'safer' conditions than what street prostitution offers.

But others believe the work can 'initiate a crime' as it can serve as a magnet for criminal activity like trafficking, and that even regulated prostitution can exploit vulnerable individuals.
Inside the brothel, Oliveira spoke to the workers themselves, who prefer to call themselves 'courtesans,' a less derogatory label typically associated with 'wealthy or powerful clientele.' Pahrump even hosts awards for 'Courtesan of the Year,' demonstrating how much the profession is recognised locally.
"At a legal brothel, we have to maintain a clean bill of health, which means we are tested in-house once a week," one of the lead workers explained, adding that the tests include everything from blood draws to swabs to ensure 'everybody is safe.'
The woman said that condoms are '100% mandatory' and if anything 'questionable' appears with a client, like a rash, the objective is to protect workers by not engaging.

Meanwhile, if a worker contracted something, she explained they would be 'treated' and could return to the ranch if they felt well enough to come back.
Interestingly, rather than working a 9-to-5 schedule, Oliveira discovered that the workers stay at the ranch for 'two to three weeks at a time.' They also have a staff chef who prepares meals for the girls throughout the day, treating it almost like a hotel.
In terms of services, each woman tends to have their 'speciality.' Some enjoy working with couples while others help clients 'get back on the saddle.'

After browsing through the services list online, the content creator found everything from an intimate 'girlfriend experience' to fetishes, role-play and massage parties. The ranch is reportedly also hoping to make the facility more wheelchair-accessible for paraplegic and quadriplegic clients to broaden its audience.
Discussing pornography's effect on the industry, the courtesan mentioned that porn has created 'higher expectations for so many people when it comes to sex.'
As LADbible's 'For F**k's Sake' campaign reports that 77% of Gen Z internet users have admitted to watching pornography, and over two-thirds have watched it since they were kids. Meanwhile, only 53% think the online safety bill is a good idea.
At the end of the video, another worker describes servicing 'later-life virgins' who, after she helped them 'break down their barriers,' now talk about themselves differently and gained a new level of confidence. She described that doing that for someone else is 'priceless' for her.

Either way, Oliveira concludes that keeping the profession within a regulated environment is safer than operating on the streets.
