Conservative YouTuber Nick Shirley has received a $10,000 check from President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, with the pair thanking him for his work. The POTUS and VP have announced a $25 million whistleblower program that sees American citizens encouraged to tip off the federal government about fraudsters.
As part of this, the Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program offers a 1% commission to anyone who provides a tip that leads ot a successful conviction.
Right-wing YouTube starm Nick Shirley is the first to reap the rewards of the Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program, with Donald Trump thanking him for a December 2025 viral video that alleged fraud at a series of Somali-run childcare and healthcare centers in Minnesota.

In his now-infamous video, Shirley visited seemingly empty facilities and interviewed bystanders who claimed they'd seen no children at these locations, despite public payment records. State investigators repeatedly said they found no evidence backing Shirley's claims, and in February 2026, three daycare centers featured in his video sued the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth and Families amid allegations that they were denied funds and that investigations were undertaken without evidence.

In the aftermath, Somali-owned businesses maintain they were bombarded with harassment and threats. Meanwhile, the Trump administration said Shirley's video justified an increased ICE presence in Minnesota under the Operation Metro Surge initiative.
Shirley has since visited other US states and attempted to find other examples of fraud as he has become more vocal in the MAGA content creator scene.
As reported by Fox News, the Future Leaders Early Learning Center was featured in Shirley's video, with former CEO Fahima Egeh Mahamud pleading guilty to charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States in July 2026.
Prosecutors said Mahamud stole over $4.6 million through false child care assistance claims, with a further $850,000 via a federal child nutrition program connected to the Feeding Our Future scandal.
Shirley maintains that Mahamud's guilty plea is vindication against those who've tried to discredit his initial investigation, previously telling Fox: "Well, numbers don't lie, and convictions don't lie either."
What is the Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program?

While Shirley is the first to get a payout, President Trump has encouraged others to act as their own justice-fighting vigilantes and submit a tip via America.gov/fraud. The president himself will act as a 'binding' arbitrator if multiple people compete for the same reward, telling reporters at the White House: "In other words, I’ll determine whether or not the person is deserving…and I will be very generous."
Although the website states that anyone submitting a tip can qualify for a reward of up to a maximum of $30,000 (as long as criminal charges are brought), there appear to be mixed messages. The Commander-in-Chief said there's 'no limit' to the reward money, and that it'll be paid out "if we recover the money” instead of criminal charges being brought.
More than this, Trump claimed: "People will make millions of dollars by turning others in."
He also encouraged journalists to take part in the Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program, with Shirley being referred to as an independent journalist.
This is the latest step in a wider campaign against fraud, and in March 2026, JD Vance stepped up to chair the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud.
President Trump signed an executive order in an attempt to unite agencies, strengthen eligibility checks, and stop improper payments.
This has been championed again by spokeswoman Lauren Bix, who told Fox News Digital: "Every day, President Trump’s Task Force to Eliminate Fraud is zeroing in on the rampant abuse of taxpayer dollars and giving Americans the accountability they deserve. This administration has zero tolerance for individuals who steal from Americans."
