Uber Eats, like many other delivery services, is a popular choice when you don't feel like cooking.

But the money you make as a driver isn't what you'd expect.

YouTuber Ben Morris previously tried working for Deliveroo to see how much he would make and it wasn't a lot, roughly £75 a day.

Since this video went viral he decided to buy himself a (very expensive) electric bike and give Uber Eats a shot for a week.

Covering a breakdown of his expenses, Morris explained how much he earned between Monday to Friday.

So, here it is.

On Monday, he worked 4.5 hours, earning himself £29.05 (£6.45 per hour), and on Tuesday he worked roughly the same amount of hours, earning £25.16 (£5.20 per hour).

Due to bad weather on Wednesday, Morris cut his shift short to 2.5 hours, earning £6.92 (£.46 per hour).

Meanwhile, on Thursday he worked 4.5 hours, which earned him £25.09 (£5.57 per hour) and finally, Friday working 4 hours brought him £25.98 (£6.50 per hour).

So overall for the workweek, Morris worked 19.5 hours and earned a grand total of £112.20 (£5.75 per hour).

For comparison, at the time of the video, the minimum wage for an 18-year-old in the UK was £5.90.

Reflecting on his experience, Morris said he spent a lot of time waiting for food to be prepared especially in the case of McDonalds. Whereas other restaurants were quicker preparing orders and usually had them ready by the time he came to collect them.

The YouTuber also had to travel further in some cases due to longer distances between pickup and drop-off locations.

Bear in mind also that most Uber drivers use cars or motorbikes that they must insure to have on the road, along with other business expenses, so these wages don't really touch the sides.

One experienced delivery driver commented on his experience with the current low Uber wages.

They wrote: "I'm a part time Delivery Driver with UBER and Deliveroo, In South West London, for just over a year.... up until recently, they both used to have £4 minimum payout per drop no matter even if it was literally 30 seconds ride.

"You could easily make £12-£16 per hour depending on the season!!! Now its really bad as you experienced".

Another chimed in: "The pay is good for someone in school who needs a job to make extra money, but bad for an adult."

Even though the pay isn’t ideal for a full-time job, it can be a decent way to earn a bit of extra cash on the side. Morris kindly donated his earnings to charity but gained an interesting experience from the day in the life of an Uber delivery driver.
