One of the key members of a major YouTube channel has revealed the reason why he decided to call it quits, shocking people with one particular comment as he carves his own path for the future.

Many of the biggest channels on YouTube have entire teams behind them, and that's especially the case for tech-focused creators who operate more as media entities than the influencers that you typically see on the video sharing platform.

While one face is typically the 'star' of the show – take Marques Brownlee, for example – viewers often get to know the other faces that are behind the magic of the channel, although that imbalance can sometimes understandably lead to frustration.

One case where that seemingly applies is with Jake Tivy, who worked for the Linus Media Group on the Linus Tech Tips channel for nearly a decade, revealing now the reasoning behind his decision to quit the company.

While it has been over six months now since he actually departed, he indicated that he finally feels in the right place emotionally and mentally to disclose and work through the thought process that led to the big decision.

One thing Jake made clear before getting into the 'bad' side of things was how thankful and appreciative he was of his time at Linus Media Group, of both the people that he met and the opportunities he was given across the decade he worked there.

When things started to get bad though is when the company began to expand, as he notes frustration that projects had to be delegated and put through multiple people, leaving things he made feeling 'incomplete'.

He also notes the controversies, increased corporate nature, and the loss of key team members as frustration points towards the end of his time at the company.

"Slowly, the thing you signed up for changes into something completely different, and in my case, it started to turn this thing I love into something I kinda despised, and I wasn't the only team member who felt like this, which I hated," Jake illustrated.

Things really came to a head when it came to compensation though, and that's when Jake revealed a point that left many viewers shocked.

"After three plus years of my total comp remaining effectively the same, while affordability was getting worse and worse [...] you kind of start thinking when you're working on your boss' third house, if you're ever going to be able to buy a house," he revealed, leaving an impact on many.

It does certainly show the disparity between the faces of these channels and the people that keep them running from a financial perspective, and to rub salt into the wound, the house that Jake currently lives in is still rented.

Pay wasn't the only reason why he decided to leave the Linus Media Group, but it became a defining factor and a major sticking point, and you certainly can't blame him.

"Damn, I felt that in my bones," wrote one commenter in response to the house comment, whereas another joked that "if you just worked harder and longer hours at LMG, you could already be working on Linus' 4th house."
