If you’re an internationally renowned group of hackers that continues to divide with your tactics, but wants to get your message out on social media, it’s probably in your best interests not to rattle the people who run those social media platforms.
There’s no love lost between Anonymous and Elon Musk, with the hacking group regularly butting heads with the world’s richest man.
Still, as many big names have jumped ship from X in favor of other platforms, Anonymous still has a big presence on Elon Musk’s social media baby.
Since buying X (formerly Twitter) for a hefty $44 billion in October 2022, Musk has been accused of running it into the ground. Doing away with traditional verification, charging people for the privilege, and removing major features like the ability to block, critics from both sides of the political spectrum have complained that their feeds are full of unrelated content from opposing voices.

Musk made good on his promise to make the algorithm open source to garner trust, but there’s still a lot of secrecy when it comes ot exactly how X works.

In the aftermath of Ashley St. Clair claiming she was silenced on X when she complained about Grok making inappropriate images of her, Anonymous has again taken aim at Mr. Musk.
With Anonymous previously saying Musk has ‘blood on his hands’, and reminding the world about his explosive claims that President Donald Trump is named in the Epstein files, it’s fair to say the tech mogul isn’t exactly a fan of the group.
Taking to X, Anonymous claims it’s been specifically ‘throttled’ by Musk. Asking people who see the post (still calling it a tweet) to RT for engagement, Anonymous added: “Elon doesn't like when we speak out and give people ideas. Ideas are bulletproof.”
Anonymous’ pinned posts include takedowns of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Republican Party, while recent rants include referring to those named in the Epstein files as ‘p*dophiles’, continued critiques of the MAGA movement, Joe Rogan, and how Musk has helped ‘elites’ supposedly collect our data.
Musk and Anonymous have a complicated history, with the latter notably posting a video mocking his ‘erratic’ posts about Bitcoin, and Anonymous Sudan taking X offline while pressuring him to release Starlink in the country.

Musk has also made his feelings clear, once posting: “Change your handle to @YourLibtardNews. It’s more accurate.”
As for the idea that Musk specifically has ‘throttled’ Anonymous, one critic wrote: “You don’t just own your ideas on here. He does too. Guess that gives him authority to disregard them too.”
A supporter added: “Based on follower count it’s 100% plausible to say that he is definitely throttling this accounts visibility.”
Someone else suggested: “You’re literally anonymous bro, load some bots and flood that shit or something.”
In response to this, Anonymous defended itself as it wrote: “Some of us have done that before - they can trace where the bots are coming from, they'll kill this account quickly. The only reason we're here is because some of us decided to stay and fight behind enemy lines. Some left and went to other platforms.”
While it would be hard to prove Anonymous’ claims, it is pointing the finger of blame squarely in Elon Musk’s direction.
