It's safe to say that Trump and Musk's relationship isn't on the best of terms right now, as a bitter social media standoff saw the tech mogul make a wild claim that the president is in the Epstein files, vowing that 'the truth will come out'.
While they seemed near inseparable for most of this year so far, recent weeks have seen an increase in speculation that US President Donald Trump and former DOGE lead Elon Musk aren't quite as close as they once were.
Musk initially joined forces with Trump in the latter stages of his election campaign trail, and was seen as a major catalyst that catapulted the 45th President to the Oval Office once again.

Many saw Musk as a right-hand man to Trump, especially as the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was seemingly the leading force for policy in the opening few months of his administration.
However, with Elon's swift departure from DOGE at the end of last month, many began to see the cracks. Musk began to be more critical of key policy, especially if it related to his other business ventures, and social media mentions of each other appeared to cease altogether.
Yesterday saw the social media name-dropping skyrocket though, although it's far from any sign of reconciliation between the two.
Tensions began after Trump spoke out against electric vehicle credits, which Tesla has benefitted significantly from, and then it continued to spiral as Musk claimed that the election wouldn't have been won without him.

Everything really reached a climax with a shocking post from the richest man in the world though, as Elon announced it was "time to drop the really big bomb" that certainly sent shockwaves throughout social media and the political world:

"@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!"
These allegations are simply conjecture at this point in time and remain social media claims made by both Trump and Musk, but it perhaps indicates that there's no returning from this when it comes to their relationship.
Musk also added that people should "mark this post for the future" and that "the truth will come out," adding several other quoted posts throughout the evening that saw him add a 'raised eyebrow' emoji to further claims allegedly connecting Trump and Epstein.
President Trump has made no public reference, statement, or rebuttal to these claims so far on his Truth Social account, yet Musk has continued to revel in the chaos that he has created on social media.

As reported by The Guardian, the absurdity of the situation has even prompted other key figures surrounding the pair to join in on the fun. MAGA influencer Ashley St. Clair - who gave birth to Musk's 'secret' 13th child and is currently in a custody battle with the billionaire - posted on X: "hey @realDonaldTrump lmk if u need any breakup advice."
This was her first post on the platform in nearly four months since she was forced to reveal her child with Musk, which perhaps shows quite how big of a moment this is for politics and America as a whole.
