One woman has revealed the chilling experience she had after being clinically declared dead for eight whole minutes, as she described being 'on the other side of consciousness' in that short period of time before coming back to life.

Death is the end for most people, yet a small number of lucky individuals manage to seemingly cheat the Grim Reaper and come back to life, even after doctors have declared their passing.

It can happen for a number of a reasons as modern medical technology is used to restore critical bodily functions beyond the point at which they stopped working, but many who undergo this miraculous set of circumstances have revealed the staggering things they saw, heard, and felt.

Your brain actually continues to function for a short while even after the rest of your body has died, leading to you hearing some potentially disturbing things before heading into the light at the end of the tunnel, but going beyond this point can lead to some potentially chilling experiences, as shared by Brianna Lafferty who was 'dead' for 8 minutes.

How did Brianna Lafferty die?

As reported by NDTV, 33-year-old Brianna Lafferty suffered from a neurological disorder called myoclonus dystonia, which was the eventual cause of her death when her body effectively 'gave up'.

Myoclonus dystonia affects your body and movement, and is specifically characterized by brief and sustained muscle contractions that cause abnormal movements and posture to occur.

It is generally not considered a life-threatening disorder or typically linked to fatalities, but it can be linked to seizures and epilepsy and has been seen to get worse over time, leading to potentially dangerous scenarios.

While she was proclaimed clinically dead by doctors, she was able to be resuscitated after just eight minutes, but this caused her to have a strange experience that only that short period of time away from the world of the living could have provided.

What did she experience in the 8 minutes that she was dead?

The last thing she says she remembered before things went black was hearing a voice asking if she was ready, but Brianna claims that she did not lose her consciousness at the same time she lost her body.

"Death is an illusion because our soul never dies. Our consciousness remains alive. And our very essence simply transforms," she explained. "My thoughts instantly materialised in the afterlife. I realized that our thoughts shape reality there, it just takes time, which is a blessing."

She then continues to illustrate that her consciousness was 'separated' from her physical body when it failed. "I didn't see or remember my human self. I was completely still, yet I felt fully alive, aware and more myself than ever before," Lafferty detailed. "There was no pain, just a deep sense of peace and clarity."

This is similar to some others who have 'died' and come back to life, as they similarly describe the experience as achieving 'pure serenity' and peacefulness.

Lafferty also appeared to insinuate the existence of a 'higher power' that "guides and watches over us with unconditional love," which one man who was killed after being struck by lightning also recounted, before adding that "time doesn't exist" in this new plane that she found herself in and that everything was in "perfect order."
