Trump has surprising response to Elon Musk after he slams latest senate bill as 'utterly insane and destructive'

The rivalry continues with new ammunition

The world's eyes became fixed upon Donald Trump and Elon Musk earlier this month when their once-close relationship erupted into a social media feud, and recent comments made by the Tesla CEO have only continued to add fuel to the fire.

While many previously considered Elon Musk to be the right-hand man of US President Donald Trump when he took office in January this year, we were able to see their relationship fall apart almost as quickly as it formed during the election campaign trail.

Following the announcement of his exit from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk began to criticize certain areas of the Trump administration - most notably a major new Senate movement dubbed the 'Big Beautiful Bill'.

This quickly spiralled into an all-out spat between the pair, where the president commented on Musk's drug habits and claimed he had 'Trump Derangement Syndrome', and Elon returned with accusations regarding Trump's ties to Epstein, vowing that the 'truth will come out'.

Tensions did appear to cool after Musk retracted part of his statement, although the relationship itself didn't appear to be repaired in any form, leaving key areas of government in potential jeopardy.

However, things have become enflamed once more - at least on one side of the argument - after Musk hit out again at the Senate bill in a new post on X.

What has Musk said about Trump and the Senate bill?

Quoting a post from Jesse D. Jenkins regarding the new Senate draft bill - which targets wind and solar projects - Musk remarked:

"The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country! Utterly insane and destructive. It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future."

Targeted also within the bill are electric vehicle credits, which have been a strong source of income for Musk's Tesla since they were introduced, as the company is able to sell to other car manufacturers by solely producing EVs.

Trump previously suggested that this decision - which he claims was made as soon as he became president - was the moment a rift began to appear between himself and Musk, and it continues to be a point of contention after their fallout.

What has Trump said in response?

President Trump was questioned about Musk and his recent comments during an interview with Fox News, as reported by the Times of India, yet he maintained a largely positive sentiment towards the richest man in the world despite their publicized spat.

"I think he's a wonderful guy. I haven't spoken to him much, but I think Elon is a wonderful guy, and I know he's going to do well always," Trump explained. "He's a smart guy. And he actually went and campaigned with me and this and that. But he got a little bit upset, and that wasn't appropriate."

Responding directly to Musk's criticism of the Senate bill, Trump explained that "the electric vehicle mandate, the EV mandate, is a tough thing for him. I would, you know, I don't want everybody to have an electric car."

It's clear that this is bothering one side far more than the other, and Trump appears content to push on with the policy despite Musk's outward frustrations, but there's a good chance this isn't the last time we hear about their frustrations with each other.
