Elon Musk shares simple hack he believes helps boost productivity and beat laziness

The world's richest man might know a thing or two about self-discipline

Elon Musk shares a simple mindset hack he claims beats laziness and boosts productivity.

The South African-born entrepreneur is no stranger to pushing boundaries and turning ambitious ideas into billion-dollar ventures. So when Musk reposted a video about the psychology of overcoming laziness on his social media platform X, it gathered a lot of attention.

The video features Dilbert comic creator Scott Adams explaining his theory on productivity and success. His idea is to stop thinking about how much work something will take and focus on the reward instead.

In the two-minute-long clip, Adams argues that laziness isn't really about lacking discipline, but rather how we frame tasks in our minds.

"What if laziness is the habit of thinking about the cost of things rather than the payoff?" the American author and cartoonist asked his viewers.

"What if you could reverse laziness by simply developing a habit of thinking more about, let's say, the delicious food that you would like to enjoy instead of how long it would take you to get up and go get it."

Presented behind Adams on the whiteboard is a simple diagram showing that 'positive thoughts' lead to 'dopamine' which leads to 'action.'

The core theory is that by redirecting attention toward positive outcomes, you can trigger dopamine-driven motivation instead of waiting around for willpower to kick in.

He uses the example of why women have second children, claiming that it wouldn't be as prevalent if mothers focused too much on he pain and effort of childbirth rather than the joy of having a family, adding that 'not thinking about the effort is vital to the survival of humanity.

Adam has written several books around the process of rewiring your brain to work with you to achieve what you want in life, including titles like "How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big" and "Reframe Your Brain".

It's not surprising that the world's richest man shares self-improvement content on his platform, as he's built quite the reputation for his relentless work ethic and ambition.

As such, his mindset has led him to create his wealthy ventures like Tesla, SpaceX, xAI, The Boring Company and Neuralink.

His endorsement of the psychological idea seemed to give it extra weight with his millions of followers.

"When I watched this video yesterday it blew my mind. For Elon to post it just asserts it," one X user replied.

"Some truth here," another agreed.

"This is so simple but game changing!" someone else remarked.
