Sam Altman brings his biggest fear to life as latest OpenAi model leaves him questioning what he's created

ChatGPT's creator shared his fears for the future

OpenAI's CEO has issued a warning following the release announcement of GPT-5.

Days after a clip of an interview with Sam Altman went viral on social media after he said he ‘got scared’ while testing a version of his artificial intelligence, his true fears have been revealed in full.

In the video, the OpenAI CEO admitted that the advancement of the technology is starlting right now, with the footage, which was shared on Reddit, showing Altman appearing on a podcast with Theo Von.

While many might wonder why fast AI advancements would scare a guy who literally created a powerhouse AI bot, there’s a reason he’s fearful.

Having announced the release of one of the most highly anticipated AI model in history, Altman seems to have backtracked on his sophisticated model with boasts ‘a high degree of scientific certainty’ that GPT-5 will be smarter than its GPT-4 predecessor.

Having previously said GPT-4 ‘kind of sucks’, Altman has been raving about his high hopes for his latest release, which should be this month.

Having spoken to Von on This Past Weekend with Theo Von podcast, he admitted that it all ‘feels very fast’.

Von asked the tech leader if it ‘feels like it’s moving too fast for you sometimes?’.

In response, Altman said: “The last few months it felt very fast. It feels faster and faster, but the last few months it felt very fast.”

According to Altman: "There are moments in the history of science, where you have a group of scientists look at their creation and just say, you know: ‘What have we done?"

He shared that AI is advancing and scaling rapidly, which could soon outpace the rate at which creators can put in measures so that it doesn’t spiral out of control as he added that ‘it feels like there are no adults in the room’.

However, he has previously indicated that AI will be smart enough to prevent AI from causing a catastrophe.

So, there are mixed signals here.

During the same interview, he also went on to talk about doomsday, and that he’s got his own plan if WW3 breaks out.

The creator of ChatGPT, says the world feels increasingly unstable and he’s got a place he can hide if things go awry.

Altman explained that while he doesn’t have what he’d call a bunker, his home is equipped with heavy-duty underground spaces that could protect him.

Altman said in response to Von asking if he has a bunker: “I have, like, underground concrete, heavy reinforcement basements, but I don’t have something I would call a bunker.”

Von replied: “That’s a bunker, dude.” To which Altman asked: “What is the difference between a basement and a bunker?” Von ping-ponged back: “A place you can hide when it all goes off or whatever.”

Altman continued: “I have been thinking, actually, that I should really do a good version of one of those, but I don’t have, like, what I would call a bunker — but it has been on my mind. Not because of AI but just because, like, people are dropping bombs in the world again.”
