Company behind Ozempic announce unlikely collaboration with AI to fast track 'completely new scientific opportunities'
The creation of GLP-1 injections has revolutionized the weight loss industry in recent years, with millions of people reportedly using the medication, which was originally designed to treat type 2 diabetes, to combat obesity.
Now, Novo Nordisk, who is the pharmaceutical company behind the Ozempic brand of the medication, have revealed that they are working on a collaboration with an artificial intelligence firm to complete new medical research.
This comes as it was announced that the company would now be partnering with Anthropic in order to fast track ‘completely new scientific opportunities’. Prior to this, Novo Nordisk had partnered with OpenAI earlier in the year.

In a statement, Novo Nordisk shared that this is all part of the firm’s mission to ‘become the world’s most AI-driven healthcare company’.

The release continued: “The companies will jointly address key drug discovery challenges identified by scientists and computational teams at Novo, develop targeted solutions for specific scientific challenges and workflows to support biological reasoning, and help accelerate the discovery and development of new medicines.”

“AI can help us increase productivity in R&D and compress the path from research to marketed product. But beyond this, AI tools can also offer completely new scientific opportunities and aid reasoning and understanding of human biology and drug mechanics.”
Why is Novo Nordisk working with AI?
The aim of the partnership is for the healthcare company to test out Claude Science, which is designed to help researchers ‘analyze literature and execute multi-step research, produces detailed artifacts, and lets you iteratively refine figures and manuscripts until they’re ready for publication’.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei added: “AI’s increasing capability brings with it the potential to compress a century’s worth of biological and medical breakthroughs into a decade. By giving leading researchers access to safe, capable, and trusted frontier models, we can shorten research timelines, improve outcomes, and discover medicines and treatments that significantly improve human life.
