We imagine there are some red faces over at Fox News right now, with Bret Baier being at the center of a scandal involving an apparent awkward hot mic moment. The eyes of the United States and the world in general are on the 2026 midterms, looking to define how the final two years of President Donald Trump's second term will look.
The writing was already on the wall for the Republican Party, but with a 'blue wave' sweeping across the country and the Democrats flipping key seats, they now have control of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
In what's been dubbed a crushing defeat for Donald Trump, it's hard to get away from the fact that he's lost the House and the Senate.
Still, that doesn't appear to have stopped Fox News from trying to paint a brighter picture for the Republicans.

Fox's Correspondent Garrett Tenney was giving an update on the Senate race and noted that the typically Republican stronghold of Michigan was changing its politics by turning blue. Tenney pointed to numerous yard signs backing Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed, before handing back to Baier and Martha MacCallum in the studio.
While Baier appeared to think he was still off-air, he mused: "Can we do a spin on the races that..."
Realizing the camera had cut back to him, there was an awkward moment as Baier added: "Oh, I'm sorry, Garrett. I guess we're on TV now."
When political commentator Aaron Rupar shared the clip, Baier was largely rinsed in the comments.
One person wrote: "The answer is NO, Bret. There is no spinning this. It's a bloodbath."
Another added: "Watched this live. Breaking down in real time then just fumbling his glasses lmao."
A third concluded: "Translation--- Can we lie to the American public in some way?"
This comes as tensions between Fox and the president boil over.
President Trump has responded to his loss on Truth Social, defending his position and venting: "I wasn't on the ballot, and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE! Thank you for your attention to this matter."
He also took aim at Fox News itself, claiming that the network spent too long covering the 'Trump Deranged Dumocrats'.

The POTUS spoke to Fox and Baier directly, launching a 23-minute on-air tirade where he called out the network's pre-election polls that gave him a 36% approval rating ahead of the vote.
A clearly irate Trump said: "I read at Fox that I’m not popular; the Fox polls are terrible. You oughta get yourself a better pollster because your polls are the worst."
There was some unexpected blowback from Baier, who snapped back, saying: "But tonight, actually, the results are pretty close to what the Fox polls showed."
Trump went on several rants against his longtime media ally on election day, maintaining the Fox ratings are down and that the network has been against him 'for years', concluding that it's "spending so much money donating to the Worst of the Worst, including Hakeem Jeffries, Jamie Raskin, Ted Lieu, Pete Aguilar, the California Dumocratic Party, the Dumocratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the Dumocratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the Congressional Black Caucus PAC, the CHC Bold PAC, and the New Dumocrat Coalition Action Fund, among others?"
It definitely feels like there's trouble in paradise right now.
