The US midterm elections have ended in a landslide victory for the Democrats in Congress, with the party taking control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
This has proven to be a historic vote, with Texas welcoming a blue Senator for the first time since 1988, and marking a significant shift in the balance of power in DC.
It seems not everyone was happy, with President Donald Trump reacting to the news by claiming if he was on the ballot, ‘we would have won in a landslide’.
However, the results are in and Democrats have secured a majority in Congress, so what will this mean for the remainder of Trump’s presidency?

It looks like his time in Office could become considerably more difficult following these results as AI has mapped out what the US leader’s next moves could possibly be.
Trump’s legislative agenda expected to take a major hit
With Democrats controlling both chambers, proposals relating to immigration, taxation, federal spending and other Republican priorities could struggle to make it through Congress.

Democrats will also have an opportunity to introduce their own legislation, potentially targeting some of Trump’s most controversial policies.
However, the president does retain veto powers, meaning any legislation he strongly opposes could still be blocked.
Trump could face another impeachment attempt
According to AI, the remainder of Trump’s second term could be dominated by congressional investigations, legislative gridlock and increasingly hostile relations between the White House and Capitol Hill.
One of the biggest consequences of this election could be the number of investigations launched into Trump’s administration as Democrats are expected to use their committee majorities and subpoena powers to scrutinize everything from Trump’s business interests and government spending to immigration enforcement and the administration’s handling of the Epstein files.

There is a possibility that Trump could face another impeachment attempt before leaving office in January 2029. Having already been impeached twice during his first presidency, Trump could find himself facing fresh calls for removal if Democratic investigations uncover evidence of serious wrongdoing.
Elon Musk could face investigation
Trump isn’t the only figure who could be hit with repercussions of the midterm results as Elon Musk could also be set to face congressional scrutiny over his involvement in government operations, contracts and spending decisions.
Musk was a vocal supporter of Republican candidates in the midterms, having spent hundreds of millions of dollars supporting Republican political action committees (PACs) during the midterm election cycle.
Democratic lawmakers have already indicated that they want to look into the tech mogul’s role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), particularly how decisions were made to slash federal spending, reduce government jobs and review public contracts.
