While Sony still has a slew of PlayStation exclusives on the way, it's time to accept that the PlayStation 5 could soon be put out to pasture. Even though upcoming titles like Ghost of Yotei, Marvel's Wolverine, and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet aim to prove that it's still worth having a PS5, the gaming industry is getting itchy about what comes next.
We had to wait an achingly long eight years between the Nintendo Switch and its successor, but as the record-breaking success of the Switch 2 has already proved, the House that Mario Built was right to sit on its hands.
We've already heard about a mythical PS6 coming in 2028, while some were convinced they even got a glimpse of the next PlayStation in the second GTA 6 trailer. Ultimately, we're once again lost in a sea of gaming rumors, and as any fan knows, that's a dangerous place to be adrift.
There were whispers that Sony could try and take on Nintendo by spinning its PS6 line out to include a handheld option, but as we saw with the PlayStation Vita, that might not be a good thing.

Casting your minds back to 2011, the Vita was declared dead on arrival by many. As well as being unfavorably compared to the PlayStation Portable, its high memory card costs, lack of first-party titles, and major competition from the Nintendo 3DS saw it confined to the bin of console failures.
Nintendo dropped the ball with the Wii U, but with Microsoft also moving into the world of handheld consoles, it could be time for Sony to give it another shot.
According to YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead (via VGC), we'll eventually be booting up a portable PS6.

The channel has an impressive track record with leaks, suggesting that the 'PS6 handheld’ will be released alongside the standard 'mainline' PS6.
This comes from 'up to date' documents from graphics partner AMD, with Moore's Law saying it's seen 'multiple documents' that refer to a portable PS6 that can be docked like a Nintendo Switch.
It doesn't stop there, with this beefy little handheld supposedly being able to play games natively when docked, reaching a power above what the PS5 can currently handle.

In terms of specs (take them with a pinch of salt), the PS6 portable might include an AMD APU featuring four Zen 6c Cores, as well as two more cores that are dedicated to system tasks.
If that wasn't enough, the PS6 is supposed to include a 16 x RDNA 5 CUs GPU clocked at 1.2GHz when in handheld mode, rising to 1.65GHz when docked.
For those who are already scrambling in their piggy banks and knowing when to save for, Moore's Law predicts that a handheld PS6 could cost around $500 and land in time for Christmas 2027.
Even though it's all pretty exciting stuff, it's important to note it's little more than rumors. As we've seen with the massive Nvidia leak and the many games from that list that are yet to see the light of day, you shouldn't believe anything in the gaming world until you've actually got it in your hands.
