It's no secret that many were left disappointed and dejected following the delay of Grand Theft Auto 6, but hints from a major leaker suggest that an iconic entry in the GTA series could be getting a remaster before the end of the year.
Excitement surrounding the second trailer masked much of the sadness within the GTA community, as many are still left in shock that they'll now have to wait over a year to play the sixth entry, despite the release previously being scheduled within the next few months.
While they can head back to the latest game in the series to download a photorealistic mod if they're looking to recreate the 'insane' graphics that are likely present in GTA 6, it still has key features that are likely lacking compared to the upcoming title, and many have grown tired of playing it over the past 12 years.

Thankfully, there might be hope as one prominent leaker has hinted that a remake for Grand Theft Auto 4 could be on its way before the end of the year, giving fans something to play before diving into the state of Leonida when GTA 6 arrives.
As reported by ComicBook.com, this leak comes from Tez2, who is known for their reliable information surrounding Rockstar's games. Their post, shared by @videotechuk_ on X, outlines:
"Someone at R* hinted at the IV port, and by now it should've gone up a year in development. We may end up seeing it drop later this year."

Unless you still own an Xbox 360 or PS3 there hasn't been a way to play GTA 4 on console for years, and although you can buy it on PC, it's release is plagued with technical issues that make it a less-than-ideal experience.

Therefore, even a simple port with improved compatibility and a performance boost would be more than enough for many, especially as someone who turns 18 on the day that GTA 6 is set to release won't have been born when GTA 4 first game out - a terrifying fact, I know.
Some fans have taken to social media to blame this for the delayed release of GTA 6, with one user remarking: "Anything but finish GTA 6." However, like the previous remasters of San Andreas, Vice City, and GTA 3, this will likely have been handled by a secondary team or outsourced to another studio.

Others are hopeful that the experience has been altered slightly too, as one commenter outlines: "If they fixed the driving, I'm all in. To me, the driving was the weakest in the game."
There's still plenty of excitement to be had though, especially if it does release with enough time to play it before GTA 6 drops. "GTA 4 remaster is a very cool gift that will brighten our waiting for GTA 6," writes one excited gamer, with another adding that it would be a "nice consolation prize."
