Ex-Apple employee finally busts years old myth about charging your iPhone to 100%

Putting your phone in rice might not be the magic hack you think it is

An ex-Apple employee has finally busted a years old myth about charging your iPhone to 100%.

TikToker Tyler Morgan shares his tech tips online, with his videos earning him 1.8 million followers on the app.

In a recent video, the social media influencer busted some common myths when it comes to iPhones.

In the clip uploaded to his account, Morgan talked about the theory that charging your Apple device to 100% can worsen your battery health.

He said: “It does ruin your battery in the long run. If you upgrade your phone every year or every two years, you shouldn’t notice any serious battery health damage or anything like that.

“If you’re gonna keep your phone for three years or more then you’re gonna start noticing it. Apple even has a charge limit you can set because of this issue.

“If I was you, no matter how long you plan on keeping your phone, 80-85 is ideal.”

Another myth Morgan talked about was the idea that closing all of your tabs saves battery, which he confirmed is not true.

Instead, he explained: “Whenever you close something and you go back in later and open it up again, that uses a lot more power.

“When they’re here [in an open tab], they’re basically suspended in time. Like any power they are using, it’s very minimal. Keep all your tabs open.”

Another misconception is that more megapixels, the better quality of a camera you have.

Morgan continued: “That’s not true. When you have too many megapixels on a small sensor you actually can get the opposite effect and make it a more blurry picture. It’s too much and the sensor is not big enough. I love this phone, but the camera’s a**.”

So, what about the theory that putting your phone on airplane mode helps it to charge up faster?

According to Morgan, there is some truth to that.

He went on to say: “This is true but a little bit cause it shuts off WiFi, Bluetooth and your Phone data so it can prioritize charging. You’re not gonna notice a substantial difference, but if you’re in a pinch, it’s great.”

Lastly, does putting your phone in rice after you’ve dropped it in water magically fix it?

Morgan said: “You could debatably make it worse, because you’ll get rice pieces or worse, starch stuck in those ports and it will clog up.

“Best thing you can do, get the shortcut that literally ejects water from it. Run water eject. Now you know the truth.”
