The world's first folding iPhone looks like it's set to 'click' with fans, as the tech giant enters a new era with the snazzy iPhone Duo. Even though some might be balking at the $2,000 price tag for the entry-level iPhone Duo (quashing those iPhone Ultra naming rumors), others are dashing to the pre-order section and throwing their money at Apple in the aftermath of its September 9 'Surprise and shine' event.
Apple might be seven years behind Samsung's first folding phone, but teaching us that patience is a virtue, many think the iPhone Duo has been worth the wait.
With pre-orders kicking off on October 16, some are throwing their money at the iPhone Duo for one camera feature alone. For many, the latest smartphone might've just introduced a relationship-saving feature we never knew we needed until now.
The iPhone Duo has some impressive camera credentials
Apple showed off the iPhone Duo's camera capabilities, with boasts that the advanced camera system delivers "all-new experiences made possible by its breakthrough design". This comes courtesy of a 48MP Fusion Main camera, which lets you shoot sharp photos at up to 48MP resolution without shutter lag. Even in the 24MP default, you should still get spectacular image quality at a file size that's perfect for sharing.

Even though one tech expert previously thought the lack of a dedicated telephoto lens could be a 'dealbreaker' for not buying the first folding iPhone, Apple is trying to make up for this with sensor-cropping on the main camera, apparently providing a 12MP optical-quality 2x Telephoto zoom.

The 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera is also the same as the one used on the new iPhone 18 Pro models, with the Center Stage front camera being able to automatically take photos and videos without needing to rotate your iPhone Duo. Across the board, the iPhone Duo has launched to pretty universal praise in the camera department, but can it really 'save' relationships?

Another big win is the new FaceTime camera under the inner display. Whether your iPhone Duo is held open or propped on a surface, you can make hands-free calls. Apple notes that you can unlock features not available on any other iPhones, specifically noting that "users can take a selfie with the higher-resolution rear cameras and preview their shot on the outer display."
Let's not gloss over 'Duo Preview', which gives a live preview on the outer display and allows subjects to pose, check framing, and guide the shot.
If your significant other is slightly high maintenance in terms of capturing the perfect shot, you can rest easy knowing that they can see their photograph before you capture it.
Over on X, there were jokes about this new 'boyfriend feature'. Sharing clips from the Apple showcase where we get to see Duo Preview in action as a man takes a photo of a woman by a fountain, one person cheered: "Apple on the bleeding edge of boyfriend technology."
Another added: "This is the first iPhone feature that’s actually going to save relationships."
A third concluded: "LMAO the collective relief is real 😭 Boyfriends everywhere just got their biggest win of the week."
Some chuckled about buying the iPhone Duo just on this alone, and while we doubt this is the case, this is one feature that's proving a hit among the typically grouchy Apple community.
