Apple fans say we're 'cooked' with iPhone Duo feature for infinite doomscrolling

Apple has finally launched its first-ever folding phone with the new iPhone Duo, yet its dual-screen capabilities have been highlighted with a major concern from fans who believe that we'll all be 'cooked' soon.

The iPhone Duo opts for the increasingly popular book-style foldable shape for its first design, with the folded variant looking closer to a square than a traditional 9:19.5 aspect ratio for regular phones.

This means that it folds out into something that's more akin to an iPad, with double the screen real estate offering the potential for impressive multitasking capabilities in turn.

While this will likely transform how you use your phone on a daily basis, it also opens up the opportunity for enhanced levels of 'brainrot', with many Apple fans worried that people will use the two screens to doomscroll on two apps at the same time.

Why the iPhone Duo will leave fans cooked

One of the first things that people thought of when they saw the option to dual-screen two separate apps on the new iPhone Duo was using Instagram and TikTok at the same time, using both phones to swipe through reels with an infinite scroll.

"We are so cooked," wrote one user on X in response to the possibility of double brainrot, and it's hard not to see how this would cause someone's mind to turn into mush.

"Doomscroll reached its final level," wrote another user, with another accusing Apple of "genuinely trying to fry our brains."

Whether anyone will actually use this specific combination remains to be seen, but there's no doubt that people will take advantage of the ability to half pay attention to TikTok videos while scrolling through Twitter or Reddit at the same time, effectively replacing those videos that have Subway Surfers dominating half of the screen.

When will the iPhone Duo release?

If you're excited to pick up the iPhone Duo yourself then you'll be able to do so when it releases on Friday, October 23, with pre-orders opening up a week earlier on October 16.

This is slightly earlier than some predictions outlined before the official reveal, and you'll also have to stave off the temptation to go all-in on the iPhone 18 Pro releasing on September 18 — especially as this launches with a new color that seems to convince most people.

Let's hope you've been saving for a while though, as buying the iPhone Duo will set you back at least $2,000 for the 'base' 256GB model, with upgraded storage making the device as expensive as $3,199 if you want the most out of the phone.
