Earlier this month, Apple unveiled its new line of smartphones, including the likes of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, as well as the firm’s first ever foldable device, the iPhone Duo.
Since then, Apple fans have been excited to get their hands on the latest models, however, consumers have voiced one major problem that is giving them buyer’s remorse.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max has plenty going for it, from its new A20 Pro chip and improved battery life to a redesigned camera system and a larger cooling system.
But there is one downside that could become increasingly noticeable the longer you use it - the phone is seriously heavy.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max weighs 249g, making it the heaviest Pro Max model that Apple has released so far, with it being 16g heavier than last year’s iPhone 17 Pro Max despite the two phones having the same dimensions and 8.75mm thickness.

Apple has released its heaviest iPhone yet
Many users have taken to social media to share their own thoughts on the matter, with one person writing on Reddit: “Anyone regretting the Pro Max weight? Seems noticeably heavier in the hand compared to the 17 Pro Max and after I put a case and screen-protector it's reached 300g, no room to one hand it anymore without some wrist or pinky pain kicking in after a few minutes. For reference, I'm a 6ft dude who works out so not like arms/wrist strength is weak.”
And another added: “I have big hands but they literally weight the same as a little Starbucks coffee bag. I said nope and bought the 18 pro.”
This isn’t the first time there has been a difference in weight from one model to the next, with the iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max both having weighed 240g.
Then Apple replaced stainless steel with titanium for the iPhone 15 Pro model, making the Pro Max drop down to just 221g.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max increased slightly to 227g, before Apple moved away from titanium for the iPhone 17 Pro models and introduced an aluminium design.
Why is the iPhone 18 Pro Max so heavy?
Apple hasn’t actually publicly confirmed what it is about the iPhone 18 Pro Max that makes it so much heavier than its predecessors, but there are some things the public have been told.
First off, the device has a much larger battery as well as a larger vapor chamber designed to improve cooling.
There is also a redesigned camera system featuring a variable-aperture mechanism, which could all be contributing to the added weight.
Still, would a few more grams put you off from upgrading? Time will tell.
