Last night, Apple fans got what they've been waiting some time for - the official announcement of iOS 18.

The tech giant is dropping some major AI-integrated features with its Apple Intelligence functions, including an advanced version of its voice assistant Siri.

'We are thrilled to introduce iOS 18,' said Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of Software Engineering.

'It is a huge release with incredible features, including new levels of customisation and capability, a redesigned Photos app, and powerful ways to stay connected with Messages.'

However, many Apple users might be disappointed to find out their iPhone model won't be compatible with iOS 18.

Apple confirmed that iOS 18 will be available on most of its most recent iPhones, including:

  • iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR,
  • iPhone SE (2nd generation or later).

So it seems that if you're using an iPhone X or earlier, it might be time to upgrade if you want the benefits of the upcoming update.

A lot of Apple users have expressed frustration with the exclusive list.

'not available on iPhone X why ?' one user wrote on X.

'If SE is supported, I definitely think X should be supported,' another suggested.

iOS 18 also brings some pretty noteworthy features including privacy upgrades.

'This release also marks the beginning of a tremendously exciting new era of personal intelligence with Apple Intelligence delivering intuitive, powerful, and instantly useful experiences that will transform the iPhone experience, all with privacy at the core,' Federighi added.

'We can't wait for users to experience it.'

Users will be able to lock specific apps, keeping certain parts of their device private when handing their phone to someone else.

Additionally, users can hide certain apps from view or place them in a hidden folder, away from snooping eyes.

Another exciting addition is the more customised emojis on the keyboard.

Users can simply type in a description and the AI technology will generate a relevant emoji to fit.
