Apple fans will be pleased to hear that the new iOS 18 customization update is coming to iPhones today but the reviews are mixed.

There’s a whole new set of customization features on the smartphones thanks to the latest operating system update from Apple.

A customizable home screen means that you can now place icons anywhere and even recolor them with dark and tinted options.

There’s also a way to make the icons bigger without text.

The phone will have a completely redesigned Control Center where users can rearrange and resize their controls, and even add more controls from the Controls gallery.

Another new feature with iOS 18 is the ability to lock and hide apps using Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.

If you want, you can hide an app away into a hidden apps folder that’s locked.

You’ll also have more control than ever before on how the lock screen looks. For the first time, you’ll be able to swap the flashlight and camera icons on the display for something else.

While these are exciting developments for Apple users, some people have criticized the updates, claiming that the tech giant is ‘10 years behind’ Android.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, to share their thoughts on the upgrade, one user wrote: “You've basically just listed Android from 10 years ago.”

Another unimpressed person said: “Android has had all of these since 300 BCE.”

Someone else claimed that the new features are actually ‘very old Android features’.

A fourth wrote: “If I wasn’t so balls deep in the Apple Ecosystem I was change back to Android. Apple is so far behind on customization on phones.”

And a fifth person added: “Wait!! You are telling me that you couldn’t do this before? Wtf.”

However, not everyone was disappointed with the new additions.

A more enthusiastic person wrote: “First time in a long time I’ve looked forward to a Monday! I don’t need AI. I just need better customization options that tomorrow’s update will finally provide.”

A second user said: “The Home Screen button customization might be the best feature.”

And a third added: “These changes will really improve the user experience, no wonder Apple is such a huge brand.”

iOS 18 is available to download from Apple from today but you’ll need to check that your iPhone model is compatible with the upgrade in order to access it.
