The months of waiting are finally over for Apple fans as they’re offering a huge free iPhone upgrade today.

Earlier this year, the tech giant announced the unveiling of iOS 18, an updated operating system jam-packed with exciting new features.

This includes home screen customization, improved Photos app and a new Passwords app.

There will also be a complete change to the Control Center as well as being able to add favorites, meaning that you can access your most-used apps quicker.

There will be upgrade to Maps, Apple Fitness+ and the Calculator app, along with other new additions, including a refreshed version of Safari.

However, you’ll only be able to access iOS 18 if your phone is on a specific list.

The update is due to be available to download from Apple from September 16, but first you’ll need to check that your iPhone model is compatible with the upgrade.

This is because Apple is only offering iOS 18 out to most modern devices, so if you’ve got an older phone then you might be out of luck.

Here’s a list of phones that are compatible with iOS 18 upgrade:

  • iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone SE (2nd generation or later)

It’s also important to point out that not all of these phones will be compatible with Apple Intelligence, the company’s new AI.

This is due to be rolled later this year but it’ll only work on the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro.

Apple Intelligence promises to completely change the way we use our phones, making it a smoother experience.

The AI will be able to write emails, edit pictures and find out information for you.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, said: “We are thrilled to introduce iOS 18. It is a huge release with incredible features, including new levels of customisation and capability, a redesigned Photos app, and powerful ways to stay connected with Messages. There are so many benefits for everyone.”
