Apple has launched a new iPhone feature that will change the way you go through airport security.

While the UK is announcing digital IDs for travel and other purposes, many people are worried about their privacy and personal data being held by government agencies.

However, the practical benefits have convinced many iPhone users to embrace the new era of digital documentation.

Now, Apple has made it a whole lot easier for travellers to get through airport security.

Instead of waiting in lengthy queues, downloading multiple apps to store your documents, and juggling a paper passport, Apple has combined everything into a single digital storage solution.

The tech giant has officially launched Digital ID nationwide across the US, allowing users to store their passport as a secure digital credential directly on their iPhone or Apple Watch.

Users will be able to breeze through TSA checkpoints at more than 250 US airports or domestic flights without fumbling through their bags for physical documents.

The feature fixes a real headache that's been frustrating American travellers for years. As not everyone has a REAL-ID-compliant driver's license, the feature offers a universal option that works regardless of your home state's participation in digital licence programs.

Apple's solution promises that no matter what state you're from or how behind your DMV is, everyone gets the same access.

Digital ID represents the latest expansion of Apple's Wallet app, which has gradually contained credit cards, transit passes, keys and now government credentials as part of a long-term strategy to replace physical wallets entirely.

Apple already has the proof of the digital wallet's success through Apple Pay, which now reaches 90% of US retailers. Similarly, the company is using server-side updates to roll out the feature, so it will arrive on your device automatically without requiring an iOS update.

User reactions have mainly been positive, with people praising the practical convenience.

"this is the kind of tech upgrade that actually makes sense," one X user wrote.

"Oh wow this is actually a really good feature!! Hopefully it'll come to more countries in the future!!" a second user praised.

However, some users pointed out the flaws of having all important documents on a single device.

"Apple turning your phone into your ID sounds convenient until you realize losing your phone now means losing your passport, wallet, and entire identity in one go," a third user suggested.

"Or... I could just hand the TSA agent my passport and not my phone," someone else opposed.
