Apple's guide to uninstalling iOS 18 after iPhone users rage about latest update

The public reaction to key changes has been incredibly divisive

Apple's latest update hasn't exactly gone down well, and many have been left desperate to revert to the previous version.

iOS updates can be a bit hit and miss sometimes, and while often people end up getting used to them over time, the latest drop for iPhone has had many users up in arms.

Complaints over features like the new photo gallery, emoji size, and countless other additions or changes have caused quite the pushback, and the frustration has largely been left at the feet of Apple as people feel like they're stuck.

The testimonials are all over social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), where people are claiming "what the hell is this" and that the update is "p****** me off so bad."

However, there is actually a way that you can 'remove' your current iOS version and restore to an older update, which has been a delight to fans who have already grown tired of iOS 18 'nonsense'.

According to Apple's own advice, the process seems fairly simple. All you need to do is the following:

  • Head to 'Settings', then 'General', then 'VPN & Device Management'
  • Select the Beta Software Profile that appears
  • Press 'Remove Profile'
  • You might also need to enter your password to do this

After that point you won't be eligible for iOS betas, and your device will revert to the last non-beta update version.

This will only take you back so far, and you might still have to deal with some aspects you aren't too happy with, but it's definitely better than facing a lot of the newest additions that are causing so much uproar.

There is, unfortunately, no way to completely revert to an older iOS version beyond the beta though, so you'll just have to stick with it and hope that Apple fix things down the line.

It does appear that the latest updates have been affecting users beyond just personal preference though, as one post on the r/iOS subreddit shows.

The poster lists a number of frustrating issues, including random restarts, blurry lock screens, duplicated apps, and a complete removal of the home screen apps.

It's became so bad that they point out that they've "never experienced so many issues on a phone in my life," and that iOS 18 is "by far the worst version of iOS I've ever experienced."

Some aren't quite convinced in the comments though, as one user points out that "y'all been saying this ever year since like iOS 15 lmaoo," whereas another argues that it's "been going on far long than that," and that "it's just a repeating cycle."

Let's just hope that the message gets through to Apple though, as some users might just be reaching breaking point.
