Apple confirms major breakthrough for Apple TV and iPhone as fans beg 'don't mess this up'

Fans have been waiting for this feature for a long time

Apple has revealed a major breakthrough with the way Apple TV handles audio, giving a boost to home cinema enthusiasts with many fans begging that the company doesn't mess this one up.

For its price, performance, and size, Apple TV certainly packs a punch and there's a reason why so many people have opted for Apple's set top box for their home cinema environment.

With access to all your favorite streaming services and Apple Music on top of that if you want to turn your living room into the ideal music listening station, there is little you can fault the tiny box for when it comes to completing your setup.

However, it does have one major black mark that users have been complaining about for years, and that might just be solved thanks to a new update coming to the system.

As per Apple Insider, a major breakthrough revealed at Apple's recent WWDC event has finally added audio passthrough capabilities to Apple TV and iPhones, removing all the frustrating restrictions for anyone out there with a beefy sound system.

If you're unaware of what audio passthrough enables, it allows users to 'skip' the processing of an intermediary device when watching content or listening to music, which is perfect if you want to get the full potential of a powerful audio setup.

Before this update, Apple TV and iPhones would process any audio being played before it gets sent to whatever you're using to play it with, which can cause some compression and other unwanted results.

However, with passthrough now a possibility users can now send the raw audio data straight to their own sound system, meaning that you're getting exactly what you want with no compromises.

While it's most obviously a great feature for Apple TV, it's implementation in iOS, iPadOS, visionOS and macOS 26 means that you can be sure that every Apple device you're using takes full advantage of your setup - especially as many use their iPhone or Macbook in the same way they would an Apple TV box.

"Please Apple don't mess this up," pleads one excited commenter on a Reddit thread regarding the news. "This is it!!!"

Another adds that they "hope this becomes a reality," whereas some aren't quite as convinced, with a third perhaps pessimistically writes that they will "believe it when I see it."

It is definitely on it's way there's no doubt about that, but we'll have to see if it performs as well as many fans expect it to, as if that is the case it could make Apple TV by far the best of its kind of the market.
