When it comes to the world of prestige television, few have done it quite like Vince Gilligan. After cutting his teeth on The X-Files and becoming an executive producer on The Lone Gunmen spin-off, Gilligan cemented himself on the Mount Rushmore of television with Breaking Bad. If that wasn't enough, he returned to this world for El Camino and the adored Better Call Saul.
While there are any number of kooky characters who could help expand the Badverse further, he tried something very different for Pluribus.
Bringing back Better Call Saul's Rhea Seehorn as the grouchy Carol Sturka, Pluribus was already being heralded as 2025's 'best' TV show by many.
Apple gave season 2 the green light shortly after the first few episodes aired, and although there were some complaints that things dipped toward the finale, Gilligan has defended his show. While Pluribus surpassing Severance's previous record for most-watched series on Apple TV is great news for the streaming service, it sounds like fans will be left outside for a while until we're invited back to the hive mind.

Gilligan has already given us a glum update, confirming that things are moving slowly on season 2 and we shouldn't expect it anytime soon. This is sure to trigger some people's PTSD that we had to wait so many years between seasons of Severance, and even though we appreciate that true art takes time, that doesn't soften the blow.

Among those who are champing at the bit to see what happens next for Carol and Manousos Oviedo (Carlos-Manuel Vesga) is Stephen King. Like Gilligan is considered a legend among the TV community, Stephen King is about as big as they come in the horror world.
Known for writing masterpieces, including everything from Carrie to The Shining, It to Pet Sematary, King’s works have been adapted more times than we care to count. In 2025 alone, there were King adaptations like It: Welcome to Derry, The Long Walk, and The Running Man.
He's continued churning out books, so we don't know how he's finding time to watch Pluribus.
Posting on Twitter, the acclaimed author wrote: "Vince Gilligan says he's in no hurry to get going on Season 2 of PLURIBUS. Understood, but hey, Vince, if you're listening: I'm not getting any younger."
King is currently aged 78, and while we hope he's got plenty of life in him yet, we can understand that he's anxious to see the next chapter of Pluribus.
Others in the comments agreed with the author, as one person wrote: "It is ridiculous and offensive how long shows to be made. And no, it’s not about quality, there’s hardly any increase in quality nowadays.
"Back then we’d get premium quality shows of 24 episodes per season every year. Nowadays we get an 8-10 episodes season every 2-3 years. That’s just totally not sustainable and it WILL not age well."
Another suggested: "Perhaps you could step in and write some much-needed Pluribus fan fiction in the interim!"
Someone countered King as they concluded: "I remember reading the letter of an old woman begging you to rush writing The Dark Tower. Nobody is getting any younger, King."
Gilligan has made it clear he won't be rushed, but let's also remember that those waving their angry fists that Pluribus season 2 isn't coming in 2026 are likely the same group of people who'd decry it if the next run of episodes weren't up to scratch.
