A YouTube video has revealed what happens inside your body when you eat oats every single day.

Relying on just one food every day is generally not advisable, especially if it's high in a single nutrient. As the saying goes, everything in moderation.

That said, incorporating nutritious, wholesome foods into your diet can work wonders for both body and mind. 'Superfoods' for instance, pack impressive health benefits, from curbing hunger to promoting overall wellness.

And whether you love it or can't stand it, oatmeal happens to be one of those powerhouse breakfast options.

According to a YouTube video from Live Healthy Over 50, there are five 'miraculous transformations' your body can experience when you start eating oatmeal every day. So let's dive in.

Decrease the risk of heart disease

Oatmeal is loaded with fibre, which is quite effective at reducing 'bad' LDL cholesterol levels, the video stated. It also helps stabilise blood sugar, preventing the dramatic spikes and crashes that strain your system, and acts as a 'silent warrior' in your fight against high blood pressure.

All these factors combined can significantly lower your chances of developing heart disease, the YouTube channel noted.

Stay fuller for longer

Because oatmeal is rich in fibre, it slows down the digestive process, which means you feel full for much longer throughout the day, the CDC reports (via Live Healthy Over 50).

Oats also trigger the release of peptide YY, a hormone that is released in the gut and signals fullness to the brain. This means you're less likely to crave snacks between meals, while also keeping your blood sugar levels steady.

The video quoted dietitian nutritionist Maggie Michalczyk: "Incorporating oats into your breakfast or even as part of various meals could significantly increase your meal's 'staying power.'"

Your gut bacteria will thank you

According to the video, oatmeal is classed as a 'bona fida prebiotic food,' meaning it nourishes the beneficial microbiome living in your gut.

Prebiotic foods have been linked to improved mood and even protection against certain diseases by essentially 'throwing a feast for your friendly gut bacteria,' as the viral video describes.

Referencing a study from 2021, scientists 'found a direct correlation between oat consumption and an increase in beneficial bacterial groups in the gut.'

Helps manage weight more easily

The video goes on to reference research exploring the 'health-beneficial properties of oats' which found that the beta-glucan within oats has a 'positive impact on hyperglycemia.'

Moreover, the soluble fibre in oats 'actively lowers blood lipid levels and helps reduce weight.'

Combine that with reduced calorie intake due to prolonged fullness throughout the day, and it's no surprise oatmeal has become a breakfast staple for so many people trying to manage their weight.

Keeps your bathroom trips smooth

Finally, let's talk about the bathroom benefits.

Remember beta-glucan? In your gut, this fibre forms a gel-like substance that acts as a 'traffic controller' for your digestive system.

"It ensures a smooth flow of things in your gut, helping you maintain a consistent digestive rhythm," the video explained, adding that the fibre can help 'bulk up your stool' for smoother bathroom trips.

Now, if you want to master the benefits of oatmeal, the video recommends pairing it with other fibre-rich foods like fresh fruits and berries. This will give your digestive system even more support, and your bathroom routine will definitely reflect the improvement.
