People mind-blown after fascinating footage captures rare cloud formation that looks like 'alien invasion'

Someone call Area 51

Mother nature throws up some weird and wonderful weather phenomena, and just when we think we've seen it all, viral footage has captured another one.

The likes of volcanic lightning (known as a 'dirty thunderstorm'), twin tornadoes, and actual incidents of frogs and snakes raining from the sky are some of the weirder ones.

Now, weather watchers are shocked by the appearance of a rare phenomenon that will have UFO fans going wild.

There are plenty of stories about people spotting UFOs flying in the sky, and you’ll probably remember the recent New Jersey drone fiasco.

Even though we might never truly get to the bottom of what goes down in Area 51, there are enough stories about alien invasions and UFO sightings to keep conspiracy theorists busy.

Unfortunately, a rare weather occurrence that makes it look like flying saucers have overtaken our skies isn't the contact from another planet that some might've hoped for.

Going viral on Reddit, someone has captured a rare fallstreak hole.

Also known as a cavum, hole punch cloud, punch hole cloud, skypunch, cloud canal, or cloud hole, these bizarre shapes are caused when ice crystals form and effectively 'punch' a hole through the clouds. It can cause elliptical shapes within cirrocumulus or altocumulus clouds, giving the appearance of UFOs.

It's said that fallstreak holes can be caused by the large reduction in pressure caused by wing-tips and propeller-tips. As this causes air to cool rapidly, it's known to create a ribbon of ice crystals that can make a fallstreak hole.

In the Reddit clip, the OP is out at sea and clearly baffled by what's going on as they ask: "Look at those clouds, what is going on? What is that? Look, over there is a circle line that separates the clouds.

"It's like a missing puzzle piece. What is going on here, look at those clouds?"

Others in the replies quickly jumped on the UFO bandwagon, with one person writing: "

It’s clearly a gaggle of UFOs.”

Another joked: "Nah. That’s the alien invasion we’ve been hoping for. It’s all anal probes and disintegration rays from here."

While science can now easily explain a fallstreak hole, a third chimed in saying: "In olden age, people would've started worshiping the lord almighty if they saw that."

It's true, we can only imagine what it would've been like to see this odd weather back before the days of the internet.

Someone else had a more grim hypothesis on a potential alien invasion as they concluded: "Real talk. Do you guys think humanity would actually unite against a common enemy? Is this what we really need to bring societies together as one species and to look past our differences and find what we have in common?"

Whether aliens are out there or not, the appearance of a fallstreak hole isn't our first contact with little green men.
